There was nothing here, it was empty. Abandoned. After all she’d done to scale the mountainous terrain there was no pack to be found, at least not anymore. She’d found their dens, scatterings of items left behind, even scents but she’d encountered no hints of Sam. Had he gone with them perhaps, or struck out on his own again? There was no way for her to tell, she’d searched harder until her exhaustion forced the shewolf to take shelter in one of the dens. She cried then. Her tears overflowing as hopelessness began to seep in.

Where are you?

What did she do now? Rue guessed she could always go back to the girls, continue following behind them all silently, but she couldn’t do that forever. She couldn’t go home either after abandoning her pack so foolishly.

You can’t stay here either.

Rue got to her feet at the thought. Despite the outcome of her trail being less than favorable she had to keep moving forward. The men in her life couldn’t be the only reason she existed, Rue had a purpose and she would find it on her own. With one look back at the wispy mountain tops Rue whispered softly before beginning her long trek back.
