Description

Sitting before the great trunks of the grand willows, she contemplates the future....

Within the glade, the waters run deep and fast, tumbling over the stepped terrain between the roots, ever onward, toward the sea....

This is another gift, for a good friend of mine, someone who quite literally saved my life once. I decided to upload it now because Christmas is getting ever further behind us, despite that I haven't yet given it to her. if she sees it here first, im sorry, but this is for you.

drawn using pigment ink fineliners, biro pen, pencil crayons, pencil, eraser for lightening shades,Β gel pens; including white gel.

drawn on A4 watercolourΒ card.

A really beautiful retreat and well drawn.
it reminds me of Tolkien's poem, "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil".

I loved bombadil's character, he is such a lackadaisical creature.
And I think probably Tolkien has been a great inspiration to me, whether I think of it regularly or not
I only read his works later in life, so its something I came to more in recent years. I liked the films but the books are much better!

I liked the films for the most part but they were like watching action movies.
If I was the director I would have spent more time dwelling on the scenery and less on the battle scenes.
Plus, Tom Bombadil was completely left out.

simonpark81 In reply to Tolkyes [2016-08-22 07:04:53 +0000 UTC]

i was shocked when i read the books, that bombadil's character is quite important to the overall story but got left out completely.
its a shame that it couldnt have been more based in the mythos and legend, focusing on middle earth itself.
the battles in the books are just a side note, but in the movies they are most of it

Peter Jackson has said that first and foremost he's a big blockbuster movie buff. That's why he seems to emphasize action.

it would have seemed more like a documentary if they had focused so intently on each stage of the journey, so as a holywood film i think it worked....
Β i absolutely loved Tolkien's style though, he really loved to trek his homeland. that much is obvious.
Β i see middle earth everywhere here in england.
funnily enough, on our recent holiday to Scotland, we had some American tourists ask us if we were hobbits. (odd, since both El and I are around six feet tall) we told them we were from the shires (west Yorkshire) and they were beside themselves that such a place existed.
the shire seems cool...
unless you come from there.
Β the people really are that homely and racially prejudiced in the shires.

thank you for such a professional viewpoint on my work!

Β i joined DA because someone told me this was THE place to sell real artwork and get real artist's viewpoints on what you do-
well, it wasnt quite what i expected, what with all these my little pony fans and videogames-copiers around lol
but every once in a while i get a beautiful, intelligent response to my life's works, and it restores my faith in the idea that i can create actual beautiful artwork, that appeals to actual art lovers.
so thank you, so very much, and i hoe you have a wonderful day my friend.

haha yeah deviantart is one of the more diverse online art communities i've seen, which has its pros and cons depending on what you like. i was a little overwhelmed by the amount of pony fanart too lmao. the site isn't great for selling art but it is a good place to meet other artists and share your work.

very welcome, you have a wonderful day too!

The attentiveness to detail here is fine and meditative. I see the intricacies o line and pausing. I can imagine a great satisfaction o the act of viewing sections at a time and then the whole of the piece completed.

simonpark81 In reply to Futurum-Undam [2015-01-24 17:39:32 +0000 UTC]

absolutely each work is a trial of time and effort, slowly but surely trekking toward the ultimate goal of creating an enjoyable and re-viewable piece of art
i must admit my images are often derived from meditative places and experiences.
i love the surreal quality of the mind, that lets us see more than these 3 dimensions. if and when i can figure out a way of drawing these extra dimensions, then i will have found the holy of holies, my own little masterpiece

this is another of my favourites too. i'm sure i will get round to drawing more like this, i enjoyed the challenge of making something that wasnt absolutely chock-full of tiny details to annoy me when colouring XD
that said, i think i still did that, but with regular details rather than adding things that shouldnt be there lol
guess thats life

lol i didnt mean for that effect, i was trying to make the girl look kind of larger, a "plus-sized lady" as they like to be called.
probably a mixture of the way she is huddled and the fact that she is wearing the exact same colour as the fly agarics around her works together to create this illusion. i shan't complain, i love it when pictures surprise me even after they have been finished. thats the best part of being an artist.
