More Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen-based style Gasters. This one I actually really really like, tbh.My big problem is that I'm into all interpretations of Gaster. Nice ones, or mean ones. Dads or bros or mentors. They're all good by me. It's just lately I've been really feeling some good guy Gasters, you know? I mean, with a helping of questionable morality and mad scientist activities. But still mostly okay. Like, at least 70% okay.
Like, fingers steepled, legs crossed: "Did I assist in murdering those children? No. Well. Yes. 'Technically' I suppose you could say that were the case. --But! I also UN-murdered them! Killing doesn't count if you resurrect them afterwards, right? And they're my boys now, how wonderful! ...No, I don't consider it 'kidnapping.' It's... repossessing. Certainly I must be much better than whatever irresponsible parents allowed their offspring to fall into a hole in a mountain. We get nice cream on Tuesdays! ...So they may be the byproducts of determination experiments? As I say, there are no mistakes in life, only happy accidents. And sometimes those accidents include death."
I picture him mildly enjoying MTT stuff and having something to bond with Pap over. It's all reruns to him, but he still finds it entertaining. But more than anything he just wants to be supportive and proud of Alphys' accomplishments. "Look at what my old lab assistant made! How delightful!" *puts robot blueprints up on the fridge*

Gaster definitely seems more interesting as a good guy, especially given how there's no real indication within the game to suggest otherwise. Perhaps it resembles a horror story just to pull the rug out from under people. Just cause he's scary doesn't make him bad. Though whether or not he's dangerous is left to question...
I do like how you have him "oozing pixels" in his recent outfits. That's a really neat idea.

I enjoy stories where Gaster is kind of a lousy person, but maybe for "the greater good" or something. But I have a hard time imagining any character in Undertale being totally irredeemable. And now with the "smiling faces" thing, it seems even more likely that he used to be a swell guy.
There's a nice set of theories going around tumblr and reddit about Gaster developing and then gaining the power of determination at one point and losing his mind to it before Flowey existed. That Sans was the one who ended up destroying him in a fight just like how he fights you in a Genocide run, and that's how he knows about what's supposed to happen next. I'd be willing to see more of that explored.
IDK, I'm happy with anything, so long as there's a way to rescue him and give him a chance at a happy ending too. I hope he's a sweetie pie. A terrifying sweetie pie, but a sweetie pie nonetheless.
