well the trick is here.. to wait until after the sun goes down.. tripod your camera.. put it on a 2-3 second shutter speed.. point it at the direction of the lightning strike and just keep shooting till you get something.. I was lucky that I had so many elements to compose the shot with.. that is what makes it dramatic.. otherwise it's just another lightning and nothing else photo...

it is possible.. any place there are thunder storms.. I am pretty sure you have those in PA.. you have the mountains as well
