simplelines In reply to twinket [2007-08-22 23:43:04 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou.I am honored since you do such marvelous mountains yourself.I've never drawn a train but it does look like a perfect place for one.I remember seeing scenes like this when a bunch of friends and I took a train trip through the Rockies after graduation.

twinket In reply to simplelines [2007-08-23 02:49:20 +0000 UTC]

i can't say i've drawn one either, but i don't really get into drawing cars and things like that, gotta have the contours just right or else it don't look right. i would love to see the mountains for real one day too, that's probably why i like painting them so much.

simplelines In reply to twinket [2007-08-23 03:19:00 +0000 UTC]

Me either, too mechanical and lifeless. You should see the mountains for real.
They literally take your breath away, whether your looking up at them or up in the mountains looking around.Night in the mountains on a clear night is magical. You feel so close to the stars you could reach up and pick one out of the sky. There are so many more that are visable because of the darkness. It's astounding. Now who's babbling!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

twinket In reply to simplelines [2007-08-23 19:04:27 +0000 UTC]

yeah, definitely don't get into the mechanical stuff, as much as i like trains and stuff like that. how you described the mountains sounds wonderful, i can almost picture myself there. when i was really young, like 5, i got to visit the smoky mountains, and i was in the black hills when i was 12, but they aren't the real rocky peaks. i hope to vacation in alaska within the next couple years, i have a friend in the air force stationed there he has a beautiful log home so i'll have a place to stay, it's so expensive up there.

simplelines In reply to twinket [2007-08-23 19:50:25 +0000 UTC]

I've heard Alaska is breathtakingly beautiful, in all seasons.Your lucky to have someone to stay with.Hopefully he won't get transferred before you get a chance to go.My dad was in the air force and we moved so many times I started to feel like a gypsy.I use to envy people that grew up in one place and had the same friends all through school. On the other hand I got to travel a lot,
see a lot of things and places a lot of people don't.I've been from coast to coast in Canada and I even got to live in Europe for 4 years. One year when I was 10 I went to 3 different schools. The Rockies are a must see,so I hope you get to go.I guess it's so expensive there because of the distance everything has to travel.I'm not sure what kind of industry is up there but I'm sure they have to bring a lot of stuff in.Anyway, who's babbling now! Don't forget your camera when you go.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

twinket In reply to simplelines [2007-08-24 01:35:51 +0000 UTC]

oh i'll have that packed for sure, maybe even some brushes & paints for some plein air work, who knows? i don't really have a plan, but it'd be nice to go, i can always make a trip if i got money to go to begin with but yeah, my friend has transferred a lot too. chances are more realistic i could see the rockies but alaska would be greater i have other friends i could look up there too, and to tell the truth, i wouldn't mind living up there and watching the northern lights every night.

simplelines In reply to twinket [2007-08-24 01:55:31 +0000 UTC]

Alaska would be cool. They are suppose to have some awesome glaciers there.
Northern lights are spectacular. When I lived in northern Alberta you could see them.I imagine the further north you went, the colors would be deeper. In Alaska they would probably be out of this world. It was one of the most fascinating things I ever saw.The play of color and patterns across the sky was
rivetting. It would be awesome for you to go especially if you already know people there.

my friends taken some pics of the ones outside his place at night, very pretty. we get them here but it's rare you see them well. like you said, most likely further north you go. glaciers would be cool too see too.

Those have to be awesome shots.I've only seen them here once, not a lot of color.I've only seen pictures of glaciers but they look pretty sharp. The ice floes would be cool too.
