Description pencil sketch on 8.5 x 11 paper, then colored in PS

This was supposed to be another one of those sort of archeology infographic sort of pieces, but I feel like it fell short, as it is very slim on the actual info.
But hey, it does still have some neat archeological looking pieces sitting around looking cool.
I was happy with the more graphic style of the map that was to seem more like an etched sort of thing.

It actually started life as some little thumbnail sketches for weird sculpture projects i was thinking about.
Like, down at the bottom of the page after filling a 9x12 page with other more useful and reasonable diagrams.
You know how it works - after you've done all the reasonable work, you sketch the totally unreasonable.
You can see the pencil sketch over at the Guild - www.cartographersguild.com/sho…

Other bits....

I agree, a very strongish Mesoamerican influence .. I love these. I see a lot of snakey shapes .. and now that it's mentioned, I do see some hands. I think the snakey shapes could be construed as tentacles (:

Anyway, I do love this style of yours, very dimensional, and kind of otherworldy. Awesomeness.

Even if not what you were trying to make it's still pretty great. Lots of fancy Mesoamerican influence in the carvings, plus terrific use of that in the decorative border too. Actually, the ones that seem to "emerge" from the stone wall up top create a nice "ease into it" feeling.

Also, why is it that a lot of the forms remind me of hands? (Just me?) Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Hehe, I had to look back but now I see the hands and fingers.
I have heard that some see tentacle type things and others have seen butts
Yeah, this one was a bit less thought out, and so suffers in a few ways from that.
I still like it though.

It makes me really want to explore the place. I'm sure there must be treasures around there

Yes, ancient treasures
and maybe some ghosts... and probably some really nasty tomb creatures.
