Clashing colours are definitively a nice way to go. Matching colours are nice, too, but clashing is exciting and fun. You can do so much more when you throw caution to the wind and experiment with abstract colour palettes.

Exactly! Deviating from the norm is what gives birth to the exciting! I think thats actually one of DeviantArt's own philosophies. 
I don't mind matching colours, they're great for more soft, emotive pieces.

I'm supposed to be doing a character design one of these days, and she's supposed to be a bit whacky, so clashing colours may be the proper approach. I was originally intended to make her match, but this has inspired me to do otherwise.
