Description The River Cow Pokémon
"With a thick hide, a hard head, and sharp horns, it is a formidable adversary to anyone it considers a threat. Unfortunately, its bad eyesight and testy nature cause it to react violently to anyone else in its vicinity."
"Despite being plant-eaters, their tempers are infamously short. They live in underground pools which they guard fiercely, and will invariably track down and attack anyone who stays in their territory for too long."
"Only submerging in the cool of a river can calm an angry MANATAUR down. With its stubby legs, it can pursue intruders onto land, but only for a short space of time before it has to hurry back into the water."

Type: Water
Height: 3'
Weight: 75 lbs
Ability: Torrent (Thick Skin*)
Evolution: BUOVINE  --> Level 20 --> MANATAUR  --> Level 45 + Pass judgement by the Temple of Predestination  --> ENKUVIAL  (Legendary)
Egg Groups: Field and Monster

Basis: The African manatee (Trichechus senegalensis), with some minotaur-like traits. Its name and appearance are a pun on the nickname for manatees, "sea cows".
Name Origin: MANATee + TAURus (also sounds like "Minotaur")

Moves Learned: Same as BUOVINE, with added moves Fury Attack and Tidal Bore*.
Notable Other Moves: Same as BUOVINE.

Base Stats:
HP: 72
Attack: 60
Defense: 83
Sp. Atk: 60
Sp. Def: 83
Speed: 50
TOTAL: 409

Thick Skin: Halves the damage taken from physical attacks.
(Note: This is not the same as Fur Coat. While Fur Coat doubles the Defense stat of the Pokémon possessing it, Thick Skin reduces the damage taken by physical attacks by 50%, similar to Fluffy without the weakness to Fire. Unlike Fluffy but like Fur Coat, Thick Skin also affects incoming physical attacks that do not make contact, e.g. Earthquake.)

Tidal Bore
Category: Physical
Type: Water
Power: 90
PP: 10
Accuracy: 100%
The user builds power by surging upstream, and then strikes on the next turn. This move breaks any protection used by the target. (Compare: Phantom Force. The protection removal is the same as Brick Break and is applied before damage is dealt. The user is semi-invulnerable on the first turn, like with Dive.)

**********

Last of the middle-stage starters, we come to Manataur! This one is even less complex than the other two - I just needed a middle-stage that distinguished between the final form, which I'd always planned to be bipedal and a bit anthropomorphic, and the more realistically shaped first stage. I decided to take the visual pun on the "sea cow" nickname and run with it for all it was worth, and originally the design was a quadruped like Brazaziel was, but later feedback from Discord led me to make him bipedal. This helped distinguish him from Brazaziel and also set up the final form, and though the fact that he suddenly grows back legs in this stage might be a tad sudden, I think it's fine because Wooper gaining arms when evolving into Quagsire isn't that different lol. I also added an extension to the neck floatie that resembles a cowbell based on a sample sketch someone on Discord sent me when I asked for feedback, and I think it works well while setting up what I have in mind for the final stage. Larger horns and cloven hooves on the ends of his flippers (a reference to the nails on African manatee flippers ) round out this design. I like the idea of something based on a peaceful, non-confrontational creature becoming fierce at some point, because herbivores in real life aren't as friendly as media would have you assume (as anyone who knows a thing or two about cattle, elephants, or hippos can tell you).

This line is the most defensive and tank-like of Kemet's tarters, and I decided to have the stats reflect that. Taking cues from Dewott and Marshtomp this time, I wanted a BST of 409 which is midway between their BSTs of 413 and 405, respectively. The 73 HP is the average between Dewott's 75 and Marshtomp's 70, and I switched around Dewott's dual 60 defenses to get Manataur's offensive stats, before making the actual defensive ones the same value of 83, which is Dewott's Special Attack and two short of Marshtomp's 85 Attack. Subtracting these values from 409 gave me a flat 50 for Speed, the same as Marshtomp's. I imagine this build would help with effective use of his signature move, Tidal Bore, which forces you to wait a turn before attacking, so he'd need all the help he can get in order to withstand any incoming attacks, partly because he'd be too slow to use Tidal Bore before most other opponents make their own moves. That protection-removal is nice, though, and fits the supportive role I had in mind for this line!

Alright, that's it for the middle-stages, but there's something special I have planned for the final forms, and unlike the previous ones that only evolve by level, there will be a special additional condition to included with these three. You'll see that coming up fairly soon - I do need to come up with the art for it first, though!
