Description Zatanna piece that I've been working on for the past 2 weeks. I had to restart this piece so many times because I didn't know which direction to go in. I really like how it came out.

Feel free to give constructive criticism/critique (:

Hello There friend! I'm coming in from projectcomment.deviantart.com/ !

I hope you don't mind if I give a bit of a criticism on your piece! I'd like to start and commend you for the amount of time you put into this piece! It really shows that you cared about where it was going and that the final product is something you can be pleased about.

Let's start with some strong positives. First, the anatomy is well done. You've kept the proportions well-balanced and structured. Additionally, the articulation in the hands is logical and clean-- she definitely don't have any broken bones! The pose of the character is also very fun and imaginative. It fits very well into the magician persona!

Some criticisms-- first, the are some inconsistencies. The fishnets do not reach the end of the leg, and thin out a bit strangely. The hair, being underlined (as in not a lot of lineart in the hair itself) does not fit into the more precise lining you chose to do elsewhere.

There are additionally some issues with color. Mainly, inconsistency with shading. While you did some heaving shading in the hair, the are areas that aren't shaded at all, or just have gradients, shuch as the thigh, shirt, and top hat. While using gradients is absolutely fine, it feels a bit strange to see heavier rendering in some areas and little to none in others.

These issues are minor and will mend themselves with time and practice! Do not worry about them, be proud of the work that you've produced and all the amazing improvements you'll make in the future! I hope this helps in some capacity!

Thanks for the critique! I was really worried about her hands because thats something I struggle with immensely. And your absolutely right with the shading. With the shading i don't know how to shade properly so when I feel overwhelmed/dont know what to do I'll just apply a gradient. Thank you for your CC I will take this in account for the next piece I do!

You're very welcome! My advice for getting comfortable with shading is to just try something simple at first. Even if you give a gradient and then a very simple shadow in the more pronounced areas (such as the area under the breasts or under the chin) it's a good start! Then, as you become more confident with choosing values that blend well (stay away from gray and black to shade) then you can make your color choices and placement more complex! Take your time, there's no rush. Improvement will absolutely come to you
