Artemis Agrotera, or "Artemis of The Wild Land", was the Greek Goddess of The Moon, The Hunt, protector of womanhood, symbol of chastity, and guardian of childbirth. As the daughter of Zeus and Leto, she was so capable and independent upon birth she even helped in the birth of her twin brother, Apollo of The Sun. Afterward, she came to ask her father Zeus for her own freedom from marriage and bade him give her a land of her own over which to rule. Her land, bow, hunting dogs, animal game, servants, and all else in her estate were obtained from various god through the art of asking. It was for this reason Artemis became known as a self-made Goddess and was for a time with this print a symbol of my initial journey into the uncertain world of freelance illustration.

amazing! I love how you combined the fact that she is the goddess of the moon as well as hunting here, making the bow in a moonlike shape! astonishing simply!

Lovely work, I really like her legs and pose it does give her a goddesslike feel The clothing is great, especially those boots, and I love the form of the dogs! The bow is also nice, great pic!

Thank you so much! I rather like the boots, myself. I tried really hard to make her strong and silvery, yet still elegant and airy. It was definitely a challenge.

Such a beautiful way you depicted Artemis! Her positioning is beautiful, she's very graceful and light on her feet giving her a more ethereal appearance like the goddess she is. The hair is amazing, the curls giving her more depth then the flat hair I've seen others use. Her bow is well thought out and original as well, subtly hinting at the fact that she is the moon goddess by showing a pseudo crescent moon. Her hounds are a nice touch as well. The attention to detail on her toga and quiver are phenomenal. This is a wonderful piece! It deserves a spot in the Daily Deviations!

Well, if I do any other illustrations I do plan on sticking to Greek Myths for a while. I do like the image of Eurydice emerging from the oak tree.

Wow, you got her description right. I am very amazed, and I'm Greek. This is her exact desription as many many Greeks know her.
You has also succed in what most have failed, you gave her the apperence of her being strong!
Wonderful work!

Thanks! I wanted to her to by godly and like the moon, so I tried really hard to highlight the muscles and make them shimmer. I also looked at a TON of Greek artwork of her before I attempted my own version. I'm really glad you like it.

I really enjoy her hair for whatever reason, it's so aerodynamic.

Thank you very much. I have a thing for drawing hair. It's one of my favorite things to draw, so I let loose with it. In most of the artwork I had seen of her, she has her hair pulled up. I was tempted to stay a little more faithful on that, but couldn't resist the hair.

True, Artemis is something of an uptight little lady who would want sensible hair. But I'm sure it would fall out after all that chasing around hunting animals.

Oh wow this is amazing. I love this. Artemis is my favorite and looking at this picture makes me feel like this is what she would have looked like if she was a real person.

The tension in her body and the pose are dynamic. I love all the elemnents in the picture that would relate to the goddess, like her animal companions (are those deer?) and the bow and arrow and how the bow makes a type of crescent shape (not sure if that was intended)

I love the flowing nature of her hair and the color. I also adore her toga because it really resembles the youth togas that many young warriors and hunters wore. And her sandal/boot hybirds are just kick ass! Lol

What a lovely and wonderful piece of art work.

Thank you, thank you! So many nice things to say!

It looks like that figure drawing class I'm taking is really paying off. And her animals are her hounds, which usually accompany her. And yes, the crescent shape of the bow was intended, as she is the Goddess of the moon. I also used the hounds to mimic the shape. I also tried to stick with a cool-toned palette of taupes, grays, and whites, with punches of red. I was going to make her hair kind of an auburn, but the taupey-dark gray seemed like it fit better. And yes, the little toga is based on the short tunic she is frequently depicted in. As for the sandal/boot hybrids, they were just fun to draw and looked pretty snazzy, if I do say so myself.

Haha. You're welcome. Excellent work yet again. Ah now I can see the hounds and I get what you're saying about the shape.

I think you made a great choice in the color selection. I feel the darker colors tend to embrace the silver/white combo.

I thought that Deer were a favorite animal of the goddess? I might be mistaken. Do you know?
