just a stupid doodle I did for abit of practice drawing handsit's Annabel and Jasper from The Dolls of New Albion
also, on a scale of 1-10 how crap is my redesign for jasper??

I rather like this new design for Jasper that you have!! Especially with the idea that he has a proper jaw to move so that he could later 'speak' if he wished to. Rather than have to rely on a radio which makes him a bit more distant/less expressive. Though the expressions can be more in the eyes/eyebrows which I definitely see here as well!
I would love to see what sort of colour scheme you might give him! By the looks of things I see a combination of metal and leather? But that's just my guess! Also good practice in drawing hands!! I know that they can be rather difficult in my own experience ha ha!

a combination of leather and metal will probably be it, though I'm not entirely sure if I'll be able to replicate it when I make the prop of him. maybe some good painting will do the trick?

Ah I see! Very cool! And yes painting should do the trick if you are unable to get leather. I am sure that some fabric stores can have a cheap equivalent/ lookalike to leather as well. Whatever you might be able to find!
If all else fails, nothing beats some good cardboard/bristol board and a lot of paint! Especially paint, I know this from experience ha ha!
