What kind of person tries to hang a fox?
I can understand trying to kill one, especially if you own chickens or other fowl, but hanging?

Mergel already was half-dead (after being caught by dogs) - at least he seemed to be - and he was hung on a branch as warning for other predators ( - and for sure as some sort of final punishment. His story takes place in medieval times.)
