Description Painted over 50% of this one, hope to be painting something like ...100% eventually Just hard to come up with an endless variety of interesting photos lately

Modelled on Portuguese Man o' War jellyfish, the base of this piece was a hard boiled egg that eviscerated itself during cooking. I can give you a link to original photos if interested.

Very awesome, I'm enjoying the skull structure in the jellyfish a lot - very inspirational. I wish I would have found your artwork sooner.

Just a couple of suggestions

Of course, you might be referring to Loving the Stings, now that I reread your post

Just kidding, being photographed is enough of an ordeal without subjecting photo materials to a trip through my digestive system.

This is just so bizarrely cool. Eviscerated egg, heh heh. Reminds me of the eggwhite gunk I find in my microwaved bowls of ramen (I always throw in a raw egg).

Thanks!! Bored at work again I was, something quite nicely alleviated by a hotplate and camera.
I don't think I ever made it past the elementary-school-age fascination with fire and food.

Is the face of the orange fish a turtle?! And the pink thing's eating his own tentacles...I could stare at your photomanips all day, there's a million obscured details and weird combos.

I'm glad your trip through my gallery / website continues, would you like a dramamine? How about a percoset?

leftyehud In reply to skulpturro [2006-03-02 20:43:58 +0000 UTC]

Only if I can trade that percocet for a working camera and darkroom - I've caught the bug! I've always resented all the dark, macabre bullshit on DA and have had no interest in incorporating such elements into my own work... until now. Who knew fucked up photomanips could be so BADASS?! I am SO ready to go be a tortured hipster for a while, thanks to your trippy, talent-filled gallery.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

skulpturro In reply to leftyehud [2006-03-02 21:11:30 +0000 UTC]

Tortured? Oh, I hope I'm not too angsty - I do have to tolerate my hideously incapable Sony F828 with it's nasty purple fringing and piss-poor focussing tendencies. I'm on the cusp of another camera purchase, I have a bug to equal yours methinks. Donknow about the talent, but I trip often and painfully. That percocet is making my mind drool.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

leftyehud In reply to skulpturro [2006-03-02 21:46:27 +0000 UTC]

I didn't mean any of that negetively. It's just that your style is kinda foreign territory for me so I'm not sure how to talk about it. Anyway, the Sony F828, you say? Yeah, autofocus is always a bitch, but that fringing...do you think it's specific to that RGBE sensor? It sounds familiar - I think I've seen the same effect on other cameras where there's a lot of contrast and sharp edge definition. Bah, I'm tempted to stick with film - all this stuff is too much for me to handle, lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

skulpturro In reply to leftyehud [2006-03-02 22:47:12 +0000 UTC]

No negativity detected, and you certainly may be yourself and talk about anything any way you'd like. We foreign territory types are very wise-assish and prone to messing with people, perhaps it is I who should apologize for being a mite reactionary. And I've learned my lesson with point and shoots, I'm going DSLR from here on in And Nikon, of course
Keep your feet in both optical worlds, I find one compliments the other nicely. And say hey to Nihilist if you see him, he's one of the best

Or maybe I'm just bored, or trying too hard.

Thanks for referring to my photomanipulations as 'art', sometimes I have my doubts

you're welcome... i think that on dA at least we all watch so many people that every morning or when you log on you're bombarded with deviations to view. each of them only gets a cursory glance at best. what i try to do is meaningfully comment on everything i watch in the (vain) hope that what comes around goes around. therefore i only watch a few... if i leave it for a day or so it takes me ages to catch up and i like to take the time to be polite.

your manips certainly are art. art is subjective isn't it. i couldn't possibly do what you do, it's creative and skilled. a long way away from my resize, crop, levels, border, add text skills. I also like your imagination and that's what makes good art good. I'm sure people had their doubts about dali and co... hell even van gogh was considered out there and personally, all these years later, i still can't see what all the fuss is about!

Keep up the awesome stuff you're doing. i've been surfing dA for about 5 months now and not seen anything half as stopdeadinyourtrackstotakealookable as your art is

Funny, I love the Mars Volta, but since I get all of my music from non-retail sources (read between the lines), I often never see the album covers. Thx for the tip and the !!

Looks kind of like a weird jellyfish thing that's either puking or eating itself. Very strange....but very well done. Ha! That's almost a pun. Eggs and well done. Har. I'll stop now.

I think I agree with the puking guess. I think I imagined it 'puking' out the tentacles and then sucking them back in when something becomes entangled. Kinda like a big tongue.

Cerulean452 In reply to skulpturro [2005-07-17 15:24:21 +0000 UTC]

Hey, that's what sea cucumbers do! I think they puke out their guts and wait for something to get tangled in them, then suck them back in. That's how they scare away predators, too.
