Description Spoonbills!!

and Cactus!!

Struggling with a few monster projects that are just not working for me; thought I'd have a little fun in the meantime.

Combination of photos taken at the San Diego Zoo.

That's an interesting title, I kind of go out of my way to exclude gore from my things - that is, gore in the blood, guts, brains 'vein' (pun intended). I'm not a fan of slasher films, but I'm really into creatures!

There's the "a" word again. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were teasing me. And that's just silly.........

Wait until I drop my first "furry" deviation on DA. I'm working on the technology for it right now.............

I think I will call you instead "younger bro", in your picture you look very tall and bad-ass. I'm definitely not "bigger" than you.

really well done. It's hillarious too. Gives spoonbills a whole new attitude.

I wonder what a bird would do with those spines? Fishing might become a whole new game for the spoon bill, just roll in surf. Mating could be problematic though multiple heads would suck. I have enough problems with the one I have can't imagine living with several

Fucking sweet.

Your photoshop skills blow me away. Everything looks so smooth and clean and natural... and so believable.

Speaking of strange, I have a drawing of a Jabberwocky I need to color. I just suck at inking and I've got all this other shit going on...

skulpturro In reply to seaweedprincess [2005-03-16 21:44:43 +0000 UTC]

I'm really not that skilled in photoshop. it's more about the pictures I start with. I shoot them, so I get to control direction and color of lighting, etc. So you see, I cheat. The American Way. When I got my photos off of the internet, I had a hell of a time matching things up

seaweedprincess In reply to skulpturro [2005-03-21 06:26:21 +0000 UTC]

See, I can't take photographs to save my life, so the only way I know how to manipualte pictures is by swiping stuff off the internet.

And I still suck.

Thanks man, I don't think anything is as fun as blending for me - I still have never developed what I think is your strongest skill - texturing. Funny, huh? I guess I'm a tad lazy

WhiteGirlsOnDrugs In reply to skulpturro [2005-03-16 22:05:50 +0000 UTC]

I'll exchange my texture knowledge for your blending knowledge

Texturing is way to easy if I quit procrastinating a tutorial I was supposed to write about a year ago I may do.

shadow-geiko [2005-03-15 16:05:08 +0000 UTC]

very cool! reminds me of this critter that i saw in a book of mythical animals i borrowed from my school library about 20 times as a kid. only instead of spoonbills and cati it was lambs and some sort of flowering plant. it was a rather tragic animal now that i think about it. it was suposed to give the world's softest wool but they were really hard to find due to the fact that they plant died of starvation after the lambs ate all of the vegitation around it. apparently lambs eat a lot.

but yes, the fuzzy cati match the fuzzy spoonbills wonderfully and the way you managed to get the lighting and the shadows so perfect is incredible! another great success!

skulpturro In reply to shadow-geiko [2005-03-16 21:19:31 +0000 UTC]

A beauteous plant that eats itself to death........... Hmmmmmmmmm...........*percolating sounds*
I'll have to file that away somewhere.....

As far as success, um.......meh. I really didn't invest more than 3 hours in this one, so I don't really think of it as a success. It's kinda like making something carefully from a recipe and having noone apreciate the taste versus throwing things together and getting raves.

God, I'm insane. Shoot me.

shadow-geiko In reply to skulpturro [2005-03-17 05:03:31 +0000 UTC]

Lock and Load!!

But seriously, people really do seem to appreciate your work be it a 3 hour photo manipulation of some suicide by appetite critters or a four day long project involving freeze dried rabbits.

I just happen to love the whimsy of the piece plus it reminds me of one of my favorite books when I was a little girl so in my mind's eye the work was a success.
