Description .

She sells mechanical seashells by the seashore.

.

meet the seashore girl, a character from my conversations with evil locussolus at the Evil Poets' Lounge (also known as msn messenger). she sells mechanical seashells and starfish, and dives for seahorses.

heh. ;] the raw logs can be read here .

.

maybe.. maybe someday she'll have eyes.. and the 'sea shells and starfish' she's holding won't look like rolls and star-shaped cookies..

heh. maybe she's the seashore baker girl..? ;p

I know it'd be shocking to receive feedback four years after you submitted these seashore girls of yours...but I must say I love them both.

They will be a fine addition to my daughter's bedroom when we move
stuck 'em on my wishlist for future purchasing

i like your style of faceless characters. it leaves you wondering what their expressions are and you're forced to imagine and create in your own mind how they are reacting... unique style.. first i've seen on DA.. way to work it

My favorite has to be the watercolor version, althougth the oil pastel's brighter colors are very fetching...I think it's because I love the soft gradations with so many colors in the square behind her head. Did you use any salt?

purple hair and sand-like dress
the grey water reminds me of the feeling you have when you're on the beach in the evening and it's raining... that fits well with the idea of mechanical shells. Interesting how this piece feels so different from its oil "twin"...
i like your style a lot.

/me bows to the queen of watercoloring

i am touched by this piece. the whole composition's just so symbolic. i love the soft & light color tones you've used. in my opinion, no eyes = seems rather somber, actually... as illustrated by the girl's faceless expression and the dull color tones (mmm, it's soft, light and dull... not the bad kinda dull ). and the position of her hair suggests/illustrates that there's a wind blowing. lovely...

erk... i'm mostly repeating what the rest said so i'll just shutup now

...
okay, i'll shut up after i say one last thing;
all in all, great job, ruth!

This is a really great drawing, I think it looks very calming, but almost a bit haunting, like she's a lonely spirit walking the beaches collecting shells to sell to people. I say don't add the facial features, looks great the way it is. The coloring and style is great, I like this a lot.

i remember something about starfishes too... the one told to us by our great college mentor... let me type it here since i have nothing else to do... Hehehe... it's about someone throwing all the starfish he could find in a beach... throwing it back to the sea... and being approached by one onlooker saying 'what's the difference... you're doing something useless... you can't save them all.'

his reply was... 'i don't know about you... but to that one starfish i threw back to the sea... i made a BIG difference in his life'.

one of those things that inspired me to teach...
of course we know what the main reason is... why i teach part time... that is... REVENGE.

MUWAHAHAHAHAHA...

i kind of like it without eyes, to tell the truth. i like her just the way she is right now. she reminds me of Vanessa, one of my best friends from college. and just the tilt of her head speaks volumes about who she is and what she thinks.

ruth, your art is so gorgeous. i can't even tell you how much this touches me. the figure herself, the colors, the waves behind ... +fav without a doubt.

I was attracted to this one, by viewing the thumbnails. The coloring looks to me like watercolors which is perfect for a 'seashore girl'. The shading is soft and color choice is appealing to the eye, not bold and glaring, but soft and gentle. The only thing you need change with this drawing is to add eyes (but make the eyes soft looking to match the soft color and shading, by that I mean, they should be doe-like) a cute but small nose, and lips. Other than that DON'T change a thing!
