This sounds cruel, but I probably wouldn't get one from a kill-shelter, only because a place that would do that doesn't deserve my patronage. Shelters for the win, though. One of my cats was from a shelter and she turned out great. I love mutts (possibly because I am a mutt as well). However, there's nothing wrong with (reputable) breeders if you're after a specific breed; I love Collies and will have many over the course of my life, and I want a hairless cat because, well, they're cool. Pet stores are usually bad, though, because the pets are often from mills where they're cranked out like interchangeable gun parts.

That's true, and I do support the reputable breeders who do it for the beauty of the breed rather than the profit. Pet stores are awful because they get their animals from mills as well as places such as warehouses where the animals are kept in horrible conditions. There are plenty of articles online of these places being discovered and raided for the animals that survived. Really, it would be best to get animals from the shelters and rescues to relieve them of their burden of overpopulation caused by human commitment issues and irresponsibility. I volunteered at a rescue for a while and I completely support rescues. We did background checks and home visits to make sure we were adopting the animals to the right people. It's a huge issue and I feel like we should have more regulations concerning who has the qualifications to breed animals. Everyone else should really have their pets neutered/spade.
Sorry for the TL;DR. I have very strong feelings about this.

The breeder we got my dog from actually breeds for show, and his actual career is in the military. But whatever he doesn't need to carry on the lineage becomes available for adoption. My dog was, obviously, of quality show lineage, but he was the runt of the litter. Plus, he wouldn't have made it in a dog show; too hyper. He only breeds dogs every couple of years. This is one of those years, and hopefully for us, the dog conceives and has puppies. You see, my poor dog became sick and, despite much time, money, tears, and prayers spent in hopes for his recovery, he passed away this May. The breeder said that since we tried so hard to make Peeve better, that the next time he has puppies up for adoption, we can have one for free. (Not to mention we probably spent enough money to adopt like, five dogs from him. At least.) I miss Peeve greatly, but I am long overdue for some dog cuddling, so I am hoping this'll work out.
How to know when not to trust a pet store: The dogs are all purebred. The dogs are all puppies, and the cats are all kittens. The dogs and cats are cramped in little cages. The dogs and cats look sad.
It's okay. As much as I would love to have a ton of little kittens and puppies running around my house, I know my family probably couldn't afford all of that, so we got my pets fixed. (My boy cat really doesn't need to be reproducing anyway. A little of him goes a long way sometimes, and there's a lot of him. I mean all of that in the nicest way possible.)

Hahah yesh i do. I very much enjoy writing a fanfic of the series. Though i feel as if i'm getting a bit old to still like the series. I am almost 18. hahah. Yes your right it does make it easier to not have any cats. Really i'm terrified of dogs, so i've never wanted a dog, and i don't like rodents so i wouldn't want a gerbil or anything small like that. All i ever had was fish, my bird and an out door rabbit named Fufu, but she died a few years ago.

I've had bug pets, fish, and some lizards. I feel the same way, but I can't stop reading the books. XD I have to know how the series ends.
