Description So full disclosure, this obviously isn't the most unique or creative image I've put together. If there were a "scratchpad" sort of place to post here in DA, I'd put this there instead. I'm sharing this with my followers because I'm proud of what I've accomplished, even if it is still fairly simple. I also thought you might be interested where I was spending my time lately.

I made the skirt!

That's right! Completely from scratch! It's certainly stubborn, needs tons of morphs to be more usable, but I can get the bottom to swing out and using some other "fit" tools I've picked up, I think it makes Sasha look quite fantastic!(Poor girl, having to keep being my guinea pig...)

If you have any thoughts or encouragements I'd love to hear them!Β Β

Thank you I'm not sure if I'll be testing or releasing the skirt - it was the first thing I tried - though definitely a lot easier than the dress you've been playing with. I'll let you know!

That's GREAT!Β Β  Did you use Zbrush, or the free one (that escapes my brain atm)?Β  I've always wanted to learn how to do that, but couldn't understand the ins and outs of it.

You're thinking of sculptris I believe, but no. This was done in marvelous designer. It's a very different tool than the others. It's more akin to actual sewing than modeling (but not that eΓ sy, admittedly! )

Lady-Quantum In reply to SlimMckenzie [2016-05-28 02:57:14 +0000 UTC]

Actually I was thinking of Hexagon, (which I think is the poor mans Zbrush ) but I've never even heard of Marvelous Designer. Is it hard to pick up quickly, or is it about as hard as DAZ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SlimMckenzie In reply to Lady-Quantum [2016-05-28 14:04:06 +0000 UTC]

It's a very different type of tool than daz or hexagon. The end result is still 3d meshes, but it's done physics based, like regular sewing would be. You create shapes, assign them a fabric type, and stitch them together around a 3d mannequin. If you cut your skirt too big, it falls off. If you forgot to stitch something, it slips open. It's fun, but a challenge especially as I have no formal sewing experience whatsoever.

Lady-Quantum In reply to SlimMckenzie [2016-05-28 18:41:09 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm...can you create the shapes based off of templates that other artists have used so that it would be considered a "standard"?

For instance, the V4 bodysuit has a certain way that it fits. If you were to be able to use the template and put it on, then be able to change the surfaces sections so that you could color and texture the new or old item in different areas, and in different ways.

is something like that possible?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SlimMckenzie In reply to Lady-Quantum [2016-05-28 19:01:04 +0000 UTC]

I believe for something like that you would want to checkout the program "blacksmith3d" - that's better intended for changing surface sections, uv maps, etc.

I think with this tool, you could import the V4 bodysuit as a "template" and add things to it, perhaps? but modifying the existing model seems unlikely in my quite limited experience thus far.

That's so wonderful! Gratz on your first clothing item!

It looks great, did you do it in Hexagon?

(That's one of the big diffs between us, my DA gallery is both my scratchpad and my gallery, I post it all. I am aware that some folks use two accounts, one for a "Fine Art" gallery, but I guess I don't see the need.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SlimMckenzie In reply to thomvinson [2016-05-26 21:06:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm giving Marvelous Designer a try. My interest is more in clothing (and trying to save money from buying more...) than overall 3d modeling. So we'll see how it goes!

I don't have much of a differentiation either. I've certainly put up some works in progress. I'm nowhere near fancy enough to try to manage two accounts. That's just unnecessary to me! I care less about the "curated" feel of the work, and more about not wanting to blow out people's inboxes. It's a fine line, but I do enjoy sharing and getting feedback, so it's probably better to just post like this!

Good job. Just make sure to rig it in Daz. If it's not rigged in Daz, it won't work right in Daz.

SlimMckenzie In reply to chris3drender [2016-05-26 20:21:33 +0000 UTC]

I used the Transfer Utility in daz to rig it. It seems to fit well, and it handles moves decently well, but not anywhere near good enough to "trust" yet!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SlimMckenzie In reply to sonicfan156 [2016-05-27 14:06:33 +0000 UTC]

Daz is a 3d rendering program. It's not really designed to create any of the objects, just to setup the scene, light it, and everything with posing and dressing the models.
