Description Drawing based on my first impressions of Ulquiorra in each of his forms through his progression of character. I hoped to capture the grandeur of his evolution.

....................................................................................
Ulquiorra: The Man: questioning himself with no answers, logical to a fault

Ulquiorra The Emperor: (also guardian, protector) challenging the opposition to his own convictions. Testing once and for all, that which he believes and sees.

Ulquiorra The God: transcendent being; now whole and pure. Had to face the furthest depths of his darkness to find his heart and complete his soul.

He was the only arrancar to find peace, and grasp the reason for the hole in his soul.
...............................................................................

Finished for the birthday bash on Bleach Asylum, late of course.

Micron ink, pencil shading, marker eyes.

I hate my scanner. My whites aren't white, colors are faded, had to sharpen to get my lines right and the scan came out all gritty. I am now convinced why everyone switches over to digital is because no matter how good, scanners suck.

Wow...now that's beautiful line-art. Ulquiorra here reminds me of someone from Africa, I think that's because of how you drew his face.
Your description is very poetice as well.
The only flaw I see here is how cartoonish the moon looks. It kinda takes away from the realistic look you have here.

Thank you.

Funny enough, my generic humans have always come out looking African. I can't do proper anime so I stick somewhere in the middle. The exaggerated features are a pain for me.

Unfortunately I didn't realize how bad the moon looked until after I inked it when it was too late (by that time I had Segunda Etapa's face and hair mostly done but everything else was still sketch). Then I kind of knew no matter how much pencil shading I added around it, that it just wouldn't look right.

I think it would have been better if you made the moon a full circle instead. Or, you could do what I normally do and add haphazard circles ON the crescent. It'd still be cartoonish, but it adds a bit more contrast.

I think if I had left the moon alone and just shaded around it with the pencil as I did for Ulquiorra's heart then it would have come out how I pictured it. I know when I detail a moon I tend to over-detail as in the picture I did for my dog, hence choosing not to add in those details. [link]

Astonishing details...! The reasoning behind the image - explaining each part of Ulquiorra's forms - is well spoken..!
Instant love~

Thanks! He and Grimmjow are characters I think about a lot because I resonate with them and share similar issues (though Grimm is woefully underrepresented in my art because I originally hated him).

No trouble at all..!
I can agree. Most characters I tend to like have some form of similarities toward an experience, how I've felt before - ect., ect. (Some just catch my attention since they just make you laugh so hard. xD)
No worries. Truth be told, it took me quite a bit to warm up to Ulquiorra's character.

That's actually how I felt about Aizen. I originally hated him after he betrayed Soul Society, but started liking him halfway through the arrancar arc, especially after I went back and re-read the manga because of how awesome he is and how trippy his mindfucks are.

Yeah. I can understand.
I know Aizen caught my eye in Soul Society, when he 'confronted' Gin after the Captain's meeting. xD Then again, Gin got me into the series. Caught him on the TV late one night and it went from there.

Cool!

I was introduced to Bleach from my mate and the story caught me long before any of the characters did (none so thoroughly as Ulquiorra, though there are plenty of kickass characters) though the first few episodes were slow.

Um-hm. I started with the anime. Before I went to the manga, I asked a friend to roughly explain the story so far. Since they went by the anime, too, they caught me up. Though - with me - I prefer reading over watching. xD So, I ended up tracking down some online scans before I found the books in the store. (Since, I'm fair. I dislike reading everything online, since I believe the companies deserve to have some form of payment. Same with the whole anime dubbing companies. I, myself, do not like much dubbed - however, I swallow my Pride and buy the DVD's once-in-awhile. That and some anime dubs aren't half bad, truth be told.)

I started reading the scans when I got tired of waiting for Cartoon Network to show more episodes. I was under the impression they were sitting on their hands with the episodes and probably were going to drop the show (they've done this several times, you can never expect to see the entire series of anything on that network).

When I decided to get the manga for myself was when I realized that the US is indeed that far behind.

We watch the dubbed only because one of the four of us has a hard time keeping up with subtitles and it is readily available on the TV (though the original Japanese VAs are better IMO).

Yes. x_x I do agree with the tired of waiting comment.
Yes, I dislike it when they drop series like that. D= Honestly...it's depressing.

Yeah. I agree. The last volume I've gotten is 32, I believe. When I realized it, I gazed at the Naruto section and died a little inside. That series gets dubbed so fast that it is unreal. D8

xD Yes. I watch it in English, just to watch it. I typically chuckle at their dubbed voices - since I'm still not used to them (sad to say). Yes, the Japanese tend to do better..!

On a side note. ;~; I'm sorry I'm spamming your comments to your art. I feel horrible when that happens.

Nevermind it I prefer having conversations.

Usually I don't get much comments anyway.

I think I probably just don't expose my art in enough places. Heck I think the most clubs I put my work in is four.

Ah, I see. Don't feel bad. I hardly post in clubs either...
It's like once you join, all your ideas disappear for any pictures for them..!

Thank you.

There are a couple fan groups here on DA if you are interested, and also the Ulquiorra group on Bleach Asylum recently did an art/ fic "exchange" event for his birthday.
