I´m so sorry but you guys will have to live with the ugly green
menubar icon that u used to deal with, sad but true

This was some pretty hard work, but I am very happy with the result right now (until someone tells me where the faults are
So this is a Skype Menubar Mod to make it look a little more Leopardish in a Look more similar to iChat
It includes the 128x128 Icon (as seen on preview, the 28x28 icon and the 16x16 icon which is actually modded by me)
I always hated the fact that Skype is the only app, that has no black/white menubar icons, it was standing out real ugly!!
But these guys have no seperate menubar icons so I had to modify the whole icns files...
So here it is, hopa yall like it!!
Download and then go to your programs folder, right click on the skype icon--> show content --> Contents Folder --> Resources Folder --> paste the files --> Restart Skype --> Your done!!

it´s too long ago, version 2.8, sadly since then this mod doesn´t work any more...

possibly we can all complain to skype to allow the addition of better integration with the look of snow leopard, perhaps even a translucent option to compare the capabilities of Adium. I love skype, but, the interface and look of it isn't that appealing.

Great mod--would have loved to make it work on my Skype install.
Chances are that as of version 2.8.0.438 this will no longer work due to Skype verifying its resources by reading its "CodeResources" file. This file contains hash algorithms for every resource it needs to load...
The file is located in: Skype > Contents > _CodeSignature > CodeResources

At first I thought this was a "Skype only" issue, but it seems to be something built into OS X (to prevent hackers tinkering with installed apps no doubt). I'm not an expert in these matters so unfortunately can be of no further help here.

ah jetzt kapier ichs erst, die großen icons sind auch noch original, wenn du die icns-files aber mit preview öffnest wirst du sehen dass die kleinen icons nicht diesselben sind

und dann gleich zur sache, seit skype den betastatus in der version 2.8 verlassen hat funktioniert dieser Mod nicht mehr, ich war im Urlaub und werd mich sofort dransetzen das Problem zu lösen, es haben sich auch schon andere User "beschwert" also nur Mut und mir n bissl Luft geben, dann regel ich das!

i have a slight problem, and i'm not sure why.
whenever I copy and paste the files, and replace them with the originals (keeping the originals in a seperate folder of course), skype refuses to open.
i'm not sure why this is happening since i've done things like this involving the resources folder, for my dock indicators for example, and it works without a hitch.
any suggestions as to why this may be happening?

This is so awesome I signed up just to leave this comment. I was bothered by the fact there are no proper Leopard icons for Skype, and was about to create my own grey icons.
But I am no artist, so I was happy to find this.
Anyway here are my original ideas that I came up with before I found this nice icon set:
I wanted to use the same logic as you did, using a generic shape with overlays, but instead of a chat bubble I would have used the outline shape of the skype icon (to differentiate from iChat). My only other idea was to use a dashed line for the invisible icon instead of gray, to differentiate the invisible and offline icons better.
But again your icon set is perfect as it is, thank you!
