Personality: Twelve is rage incarnate. He saw the world for what it was at a very young age and it scarred him with a sense of nihilism that permeates through to this day. The loss of his sister has thrown him into the darkest part of himself and it is this hatred that drives him forward now. He fights not to save the world but for cold revenge. Saturated with a destructive power that catalyzed the events in this saga, Twelve feels guilty for the rampage Amadeus has set out upon. A confused mess of rage, sorrow, hate and guilt, the world makes no sense to Twelve, it only comes together in the throws of conflict.

History: Twelve was born in the world left over from the Great War. His sister Cyan and he were the only survivors of Forte, the city where the First Bursting took place. The bursting was a massive explosion that charred the earth around and left nothing alive in its wake. The extreme heat and pressure warped the magnetic field of Terra leaving the immediate area of the crater barren. The fact that these two children survived a statistically impossible cataclysm vaulted them into the public eye. Becoming sort of celebrities, the two siblings were hounded continuously by press and well-wishers, so much so that Cyan began having horribly vivid nightmares. These terrible visions became something of prophecy as the events from them began to take place. 3 years after the Bursting, it was revealed to the world that Twelves’ parents were responsible for the event, something the young children would never accept. Peoples’ sorrow and well wishing turned to rage and the children began to be persecuted as traitors even though they were very much innocent. A relatively brutal attack on Cyan left Twelve with the hardest choice he’d ever have to make. Having both of her legs broken after a brutal beating, Twelve took his sister into hiding. On the run since the age of 10, Twelve took various odd-jobs and labors to support his sister in the ever changing world. At the age of 12, he returned to the place where all of this trouble had started, the fallen city of Forte, now call the Forgotten. A recent discovery had given way to a new energy source, Pyrite. Mining for this new resource was incredibly dangerous and often times left miners mutilated or maimed but Twelve was the exception. Ever since the Bursting, he had the innate ability to recover from any injury relatively quickly, making him ideal for this operation. Getting a small apartment on the outskirts of Midgar, the new capitol of Jordan, Twelve settled down in his new job and excelled at it.
The next three years flew by fast and Twelve grew accustomed to his newfound strength until a rather amazing discovery was found. It was one of Twelve co-workers who found it, a piece of solid Pyrite as black as night. As the crew hauled it upward, the sudden glint of it found Twelve and he turned to greet it. A week later, he awoke in a sea of destruction, his sister by his side. Cyan explained that there was another explosion, similar to the Bursting at Forte but on a much smaller scale. She continued to explain that Twelve himself was the only survivor due to the “blessing” they received at Forte. Unable to comprehend what she was saying, Twelve lashed out at Cyan who essentially awoke from a deep trance. Puzzled but this sudden shift in demeanor, Twelve questioned Cyan only to have her return his inquiry with “the other me is pretty smart sometimes. We should listen to her” The cringing howl of a crazed Anima halted Smoke from further query at his sisters’ statement. Within seconds, a pack of wild Fafnir attacked the two, Smoke having at all six. Finding the futility of his actions a bit disheartening, Smoke began to breakdown into a blind rage as the dogs continued their attack. Swinging his fist deep into the gullet of one, the canine turned it’s aggression toward the terrified Cyan. Having lost so much in the past, Smoke would not lose his little sister. Gritting his teeth, a sudden shift inside of him occurred, and flash of violent blue energy, Twelve grabbed the mass of Black pyrite. His eyes, saturated by this azure energy, were cold and focused on the last Fafnir. The once aggressive beast became visibly docile and began to retreat. Smoke would not let him. Dropping his arm downward, the Pyrite released a massive wave of blue lightning, frying the Fafnir into submission. The newfound power coupled with his sister’s sudden split in personality prompted Twelve to reevaluate everything in his life.
In the next 4 years, Smoke would carve a name out for himself in history as the greatest anima hunter to exist. Wielding a massive blade forged from the same Pyrite he used to fend off those Fafnir from long ago, Twelve became no as The Wrath, a testament to his forceful often overpowering force in his hunts. Taking on A-class and above Anima became just another day at the office and soon, Twelve’s notoriety caught the attention of several powerful individuals. The first to approach Twelve was the president of Avalon R and D, the very company that slandered his parents name and essentially rendered Twelve and his sister’s life one of hardship and struggle. Bernard Cullen coveted Twelve with an offer that most would call very generous; A yearly salary of 700,000 Killipa as well as a penthouse in the executive branch of Jordan and the finest of medical for his sister and her failing health. Remembering this man from the press conference from his childhood, Twelve declined the offer only to have Bernard rebut with a threat against Cyan. This was a mistake. Twelve tore through the man’s crew like a wanton hurricane, leaving all of the men alive but thoroughly thrashed. As the two left on Smokes bike, Bernard called off a sniper set in place stating, “Your bullet would do nothing but piss him off even more. And if you missed and hit his sister…there is nothing in this world that could stop him…”
After a particularly hectic hunt, Twelve returned to find his sister entertaining a rather gruff gentleman. He was about nine inches taller than Twelve and rather muscular but his charm was apparent. He dressed very sharp and articulated his speech well. As Twelve approached Cyan jumped upon him, hugging her brother close. She had seen the battle in her dreams and was very much worried about him but the outcome was much batter than anticipated. The gentleman introduced himself as Rudyard Pope. He had watched Twelve for some time and had a thorough knowledge of his abilities all the way down to the energy attacks as well as the crazed, overpowered state that he occasionally slips into. Offering nothing more than a way to control this awesome gift he had been given, the man departed leaving Twelve with a map. After much soul searching, Smoke decided to take the man up on his offer, much to his little sister’s enthusiasm. She revealed to him that she knew about his stints of madness, the overwhelming of his power and had hoped he would pursue this. Twelve didn’t understand but shrugged it off as something the “other Cyan” knew but this wasn’t the case. Cyan continued to explain the manifestation of her “other self” was an equivalent to Twelve’s inability to control his powers but that was alleviated. The two were now one, something she hoped Twelve could achieve at the place Pope represented.
After a few months of travel, the two siblings found this dojo of sorts, tucked away in the mountains not too far off from Midgar. Greeted at the massive gates by Pope, they were escorted inside. It was a different world here, so earthy, so scholastic. And heir of diplomacy and content filled the hallowed halls of this place. Cyan smiled and relaxed a bit as Twelve tensed further. History had taught Twelve a harsh reality; he’d never be able to rest. Every time he had, terror soon found his life. After a brief tour of the grounds, Smoke declined Popes invitation to stay. Disappointed, Pope pleaded with Twelve to speak with the headmaster, a feat the young boy grudgingly accepted. The three entered a massive hall; a single seat deep in it’s a recess. A voice called from behind them as the groups approached the blank throne and a small, squirrelly man appeared next to the group. Pope introduced the man as Head master Avila, the foremost authority here in the dojo. Having had enough of this farce, Twelve turned to leave only to be halted by a loud thud. Cyan was entirely exhausted from the trip and collapsed. She had been keeping a brave face for sometime but her body had reached it’s limit some time ago. Talking with Avila in private as Pope tended to Cyan, Avila revealed to Smoke of the lost history of the world, what the power was that devastated Forte and why Midgar was after him so. The tale itself was a stretch at best but Avila continued to explain Cyan was not exhausted but poisoned. Twelve carried within him a considerable amount of mana, so much that is seethed freely and it saturated his sister. Being so sensitive to the subtle shifts in such currents, Cyan became lightheaded and collapsed. Twelve realized why Cyan wanted to come here so passionately, she knew his power was too much for her and that she would eventually collapse and not awake. Smoke grudgingly accepted the invitation to stay and he began training the next morning.
Midway through his first day of studies, Smoke heard the clanging of blades. Taking up his sword, he rushed to the courtyard to see a young man engaged in a sparring match with three others. This kid, not much older than Smoke himself, moved with the grace and speed of a god, felling all three warriors effortlessly. A sudden jerk of applause broke Smokes’ attention as he turned and caught a glimpse of Pope. The young man stepped forward, Pope introducing him as the pride of the dojo; Amille Argento Amadeus. As the strongest person here, the young man was understandably cocky about his skill. With a smirk, he challenged Twelve, whom gladly accepted. The two clashed in the middle of the courtyard, prompting all of the students to come watch. It was readily apparent that Amadeus had earned his reputation, making Twelve look like a fool. His title as the greatest Anime hunter in all of Gaia meant amounted to nothing here. Frustrated, Twelve released a massive wave of mana, sort of a last ditch effort. To his surprise, Amadeus released one as well, negating Twelve’s. Completely aghast at what just happened, Amadeus fired a second volley catching Twelve squarely, launching him out of the ring. He had lost. Countless battles against Anima and humans alike and not once had Twelve fallen. Amadeus helped Twelve up and explained that he was truly powerful but it is not power, but precision that dictates strength. Humbled, Twelve finally accepted his place in the Dojo and began to train feverously. Seven years flew by like nothing and the two boys, now men of great strength met for a second time but the outcome was very different. With Cyan looking on, Twelve controlled his mana expertly and, although the battle was amazingly close, it came down to the exact same situation. Twelve released a mana wave and Amadeus did the same. Instantly Amadeus continued into his second wave but Twelve did nothing. He simply smiled and released a massive amount of mana. A torrent of pure power whirled around him and completely negated Amadeus’ attack. Dumbfounded, Amadeus dropped his guard, giving Twelve the chance he had been waiting for. Rushing forward, Twelve stopped short and slashed his blade upward, releasing a shockblast of power upward, across Amadeus. The force was immense prompting a devastating explosion, sending Amadeus flying out of the ring. As the smoke cleared, Twelve was disqualified for touching the ground before Amadeus but the true winner was apparent. The technicality of the out of bounds did nothing to diminish the extravagant display of power, a display that enraged and antagonized Amadeus.
Later that night, Twelve saw Amadeus sneak away into the mountains. Realizing this was the only time he had seen him since the match, Smoke followed him with the intention of apologizing and reassuring Amadeus of himself. This gesture would prove futile as Amadeus had already decided on a course that would ultimately tear at the very core of the world. After a short hike, Amadeus stepped through what appeared to be solid rock and traveled down an elaborate and ornate corridor. Realizing that this material was essentially the same material his sword was made from, Smoke began to become visibly shaken. If something were to trigger a Bursting here, there would be nothing left for miles. With a newfound sense of urgency, Smoke rushed forward. Blasting through a colossal set of doors he came upon Pope. The massive man instantly attacked Smoke, who fended off his advance fairly easily but in the end, that was all Pope was trying to do. In a flash of black energy, the ritual commenced. The walls twisted and contoured, flowing into Amadeus. A sudden explosion broke Amadeus of his attention and the energy vortex became chaotically unstable, firing volleys in every direction. The power was too much and Amadeus was brutally disfigured as Avalon troops rushed in. Pope attacked the new intruders, throwing Smoke to the side, but his assault would prove futile. A flash-flame bomb would render him incapacitated. The inner sanctum of the chamber began to cave in, leaving Smoke buried and Amadeus in the custody of Avalon. After a few days Twelve was able to dig himself out, his sisters’ teary smile the first thing he set eyes upon. Feeling a rage he had not in years, Twelve returned to the dojo and all but physically assaulted the jaded Avila. In the end, Twelve resolved to get his friend back. Suiting up and grabbing his blade, Smoke kissed his sister good-bye and disappeared into the night.
Two years later, our story begins.
