"First Snow of the Year"

Basically a Glaceon in that scene.

Simple BG, yes, I didn't use a grass texture brush cause firstly I'm lazy to look for one, secondy I'm lazy to downlowd and install one and thirdly decided to be simple and use the old tech of burn/dodge to make grass effects.

Simple request. cause glaceon was easy to draw so decided to put a bit of simple BGs too.

Quite a simple drawing really total time spent bout 2 hours.

Using a experimental new lineart and colouring technique. This time using paintbrush tool instead of my usual pencil-paintbucket tool. Makes the outlines somewhat smoother actually. Next may try using a blur filter on the lineart before I flatten the image and put fur.

Though I forgot to adjust the shading levels before I put fur effects... oh well. I just happily adjust the levels to compensate

what you think?

I was gonna complain about the entire right side of the pic being negative space, but after some speculation, it looks pretty and stuff. Good Job.

You and your fur textures unachieveable in Paint! Curse you!!

Snowfyre In reply to Scapel [2009-04-21 03:10:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, It's actually a technique leaving empty space there. You see, it often looks nicer if you leave some large empty space over in the direction where the character is looking at. Not sure why but it stuck that way for me.

Thanks anywayz.

Well, Technically it is possible to make fur textures on paint. though not to the same calibre as achievable in photoshop with a fraction of the time. Not that I'm willing to test out that theory anytime soon as I know how much time It'll take.

Well, yeah, I see what you mean now. But the land that she stares at is pretty flat, where as I've seen pics where there's subtle focus on something in the background, i.e. city or lake. Still, it's a lot better than confining her to a smaller pic.

Yes, because everything in Paint has to be done manually, where as PS gives you tools to do it. "Fraction of time" is a very different term in PS and in Paint. In PS, it can be 5 minutes. In Paint, that probably means 5 HOURS.

It is FLATLAND

Kinda like the place that mr game&watch lives in.

But yeah, lazy is the thing. not got many hours to work on.

Paint? oh, experienced people take 5 hours.
I'd take on the scale of excess of 20.

Lazy? You have PLENTY of time...

My most recent pic, the Easter one, was an idea I came up with on the day of Easter. Despite my hard work, it still took me about 3 hours to finish, and I didn't shade it religiously...

Things just take longer in Paint, thus, somehow, that makes them BETTER.

What plenty?
I'm always short of time that's why I seem to post quite little even though I can get things done in faster time.

Mostly cause of other work. student's life ya see.

Well, After a while on paint I kinda disagree. It lacks the refinement and smoothness. and if you manually put that in it'll take forever. I told myself I'd not do it again for ages after that 5 hours in the army.

I was joking. I can imagine you having a much more hectic life because you're out of high school.

But see I don't have the motivation to get PS when I can use the software pre-installed on my computer. Yeah, it's kind of basic, but we've seen the fruits of out labors in it. I would probably feel more accomplished saying that I made a really good picture in Paint, than I would if I made a good picture in PS that is so much better than the former pic.

Out of high school into uni... you get more work.

Actually the reason that I use PS is cause I'd been using it for ages. That's mostly cause I found an ancient treasure. An ORIGINAL photoshop 6 installation disk (yes, I confirmed it was original cause it had a hologram on it).... ah those were the days when photoshop was bout 50 bucks or less and my dad somehow got the thing cheap. Of course that was over 10 years back.

Basically, I lucked out. Else I'd have to use the GIMP.
That disk is one of my greatest treasures and I keep it under lock and key. the freekin PS is now sells for a few thousand bucks.

Believe it or not. I am using the ANCIENT photoshop 6 for everything. Cause I support original stuff.

Adobe doesn't sell it's older models though. I'd be lucky to find at LEAST PS 6 for use, and even then, I wouldn't want it.

CS3 is, what, 700+? How can that be WORTH IT?

Well, I DO have GIMP, but I use it minimally, although if I did care more, I'd get better with it, but I just LIKE Paint. I don't like how long it can take sometimes, but I LIKE it.

Snowfyre In reply to Scapel [2009-04-21 10:36:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's how much you like it I guess.
I dislike GIMP due to the multiple windows it opens. Guess I just stick to Ps as well, I'm used to it.

Scapel In reply to Snowfyre [2009-04-22 02:06:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's the only reason I dislike GIMP is that the interface demands RAM and clutters up my desktop. I use it mainly when I need layers, you know, making a scan into a lineart, but other than that, it doesn't get used a lot and is very lonely. : (

GIMP interface is messy... and I dislike it. Especially cause of the multiple windows that it opens up.

Awww, such an adorable Shiny Glaceon! I gotta fave this!

Funny thing is, I prefer Glaceon's normal coloration over the Shiny type. Or do I.... Gah, hard to decide!

Snowfyre In reply to XD-385 [2009-04-21 02:56:38 +0000 UTC]

It is ADORABLE

Yep, after a bit of checking figured that this became the shiny type colour after highlighting. Then again, normal and shiny colour is quite similar anyway

Snow in April, must be global warming...

Snowfyre In reply to RJ-Pilot [2009-04-21 02:28:30 +0000 UTC]

yes. The new technique does make the character look slightly different... oddly enough. Think it's more impact or blendin' or softer or somethin. Can't nail down what it is.

Oh yes. April's snow.... it's global warming screwing up the world. We are all dewmed.....
