Description "SO LONG SUCKER!!!"
--> Arkas, Raptor pilot, Cygnus II campaign.

________________________________________ _

It's been a while since I revisited the dragonians storyline. yes, this was my first set universe I did long before I joined DA. then well, kept it in a corner till I get more experienced.

So all that you saw so far is just well.... test runs and practice for it

anyway this is some fiddly testing of perspective work again. Yep. Not turn out that good, but I may consider colouring it someday.

Just one squadron of draconian advanced starfighters blowing up a dreadnought.

__________________________________

Background

The Draconian Advanced Starfighter (affectionately referred to as "Dreads" by the draconians) is the most advanced spacefaring fighter that is used by the draconians. By far the most manoeuvrable fighter with lateral thrusters to enable them to do sharp turns and even strafe sideways when needed.

There are two designs of these sleek fighters. The "Pegasus" class (middle) and the "Raptor class" (top left). There are little differences between them. "Pegasus" class ships have a larger missile bank while "Raptor" class feature advanced scanners and communications. The "Raptors" are often given to only squadron leaders.

Both fighers are very lightly armoured, however feature very heavy shielding to compensate. Their primary defence is the pilot's skill and the agility of this spacecraft. Needless to say only the most elite of draconians will fly these rare craft.

The appearance of a squadron of these fighters may turn the tide of a battle. Although classified as fighters, they are well known to be able to carry many different kinds of weapons, even small numbers of anti-capital ship bombs that are normally only carried by bombers. Precise hit and run tactics against far larger vessels have resulted in numerous capital-ship class kills for these craft.

As seen here, one of the spectacular moments of the Cygnus II campaign was the destruction of the Andrean Dreadnought Harvester of Flesh, where bombs were accurately delivered into the primary weapon, hanger, engine and reactor by one squadron.

These fighters are well known to do seemingly impossible missions and survive.

Squadrons of these fighters are rare due to the extreme difficulty in piloting one of these craft. They operate either in pairs or squadrons of 4. Usually there is only one squadron in a medium sized battle carrier.

Armaments:
3 twin-linked primary gun ports, modular mount.
2 twin-linked secondary missile banks. Modular config
1 tertiary weapon system. Modular config.

see ya later! NOT!

funny, the description of the starfighter is almost the same as the one for the A-wing Starfighter from StarWars.

is Arkas wearing a full combat suit? its awfully cramped in there o_O

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snowfyre In reply to SSBBaddict [2009-11-10 03:25:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's not the same as the A-wing. The A-wing is a dedicated interceptor. This one can do just about anything.

Think of it as a Interceptor with the firepower and sheilds of a strike bomber.

Yes, draconian pilots wear combat armour when flying interesting you notice that. They even carry standard issue infantry rifles too. It's a strange thing they do, but usually means that in the event they crash or eject they still can double as infantry if needed.

SSBBaddict In reply to Snowfyre [2009-11-10 21:43:47 +0000 UTC]

i still think its funny that, besides the classification, the definition is pretty much the same.

i kinda feel bad for the pilots... full armor, wings & tail, assault rifle, and mebbe grenades in a cramped cockpit... no room to move

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snowfyre In reply to SSBBaddict [2009-11-11 02:13:53 +0000 UTC]

Oh it's cramped in the cockpit alright. Draconian cockpits are much larger than their human counterparts but it's always has to be cramped to save space. They're used to it really. They wear their gear bout as comfortably as you may wear clothes.

SSBBaddict In reply to Snowfyre [2009-11-11 21:44:55 +0000 UTC]

depends on the clothes... wedgie-giving pants arent comfortable to wear PERIOD, let alone in a cockpit...
