Description Central, Hong Kong.

Probably sounds like a bunch of bullcrap.
But... I love places where you can sense the weight of history in the stones.
This is a pretty touristy site in Hong Kong.
But somehow, to me, it's never lost its flair.

Thanks for looking.

I just watched tomb raider 2 a couple of days ago, and they go to hong kong in it....

it was really weird recognizing a few places in the movie - your pictures made me feel like I had already been there.

Love this, actually for the reasons you stated. I love places where the past is present alongside with the modern, not locked up in museums. Great atmosphere in this.

That was just awesome. Totally made me smile when I read it. Just the fact that the shit that I make can actually affect another individual to such an extent, kind of blows my mind away.

You should definitely visit. Hong Kong is a wonderful place.

Smuggler-Of-Mos-Espa [2006-11-30 05:34:16 +0000 UTC]

I have no clue why, but this is actually quite interesting to me. I like the angle, the amount of light that is compliled into just a few pixels instead of plaguing the whole thing, the simple colors. I like it.

snowunmasked In reply to Smuggler-Of-Mos-Espa [2006-12-03 07:19:53 +0000 UTC]

I kind of cheated in the sense that I didn't shoot this from the viewfinder. I just dropped the camera down low near my shins (I kinda knelt a little) and just grabbed some shots. There were people around and I didn't want to be in anyone's way by squatting on the steps and looking like a retard.

But ya. I'm glad you like it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Smuggler-Of-Mos-Espa In reply to snowunmasked [2006-12-03 20:32:17 +0000 UTC]

Eh, I don't think I've ever really been one to use the viewfinder, or even a tripod for that matter. Never really had much of a need to.

I always thought it was damn funny to see people putting themselves in weird and uncomfortable positions to take photos in public places. When you're taking photos of people as they walk by, though, I've found that it's best to pretend to shoot what's in the background and pretend that they're in the way. They'll think little of it and move on with their day.

Oh ya, your camera was busted ages ago, wasn't it?

I don't really care. I still shoot them. What are they gonna do? They can't sue me.

Smuggler-Of-Mos-Espa In reply to snowunmasked [2006-12-11 22:12:00 +0000 UTC]

I'm thinking a Cybershot, but I'm not entirely sure what model yet. If I decided to grow the balls to dish out a little over $600, I might move up to the Rebel. I doubt it, though. I'm a tightwad when it comes to cash.

Any recommendations?

Go Canon.

Get the XTi. Or 400D, however you wanna call it.

Smuggler-Of-Mos-Espa In reply to snowunmasked [2006-12-16 17:37:05 +0000 UTC]

Sounds pricey. Remember that I'm switching from a 3.1 camera to, roughly, an 8, I'm not shooting much higher than that.

Have you ever fired a gun?

snowunmasked In reply to Smuggler-Of-Mos-Espa [2006-12-25 10:20:37 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry! I have ADD! I tend to change subjects!

And no, I have not. I think I'd be good at it, though. I tried archery before, way back when, before the time of LOTR and Legolas's blond gayness. I actually decided that I simply have to learn it... when I saw The Gremlins 2... remember the Rambo scene? Yeah. I'm pretty gay. But there you have it. I tried archery and I wasn't half bad. I SUCK at aiming with balls, though, however perverted that may sound.

My dad made me a bow when I was a little boy and I enjoyed the thing quite a bit; so much that I used it until it broke. It's still sitting in the antique room hanging on the wall with a huge crack down the side. I loved the thing, though. I was outside all day shooting at targets and I became pretty good at it. After the bow broke, though, I just moved onto other things and never got back into it.

I've never used a modern bow for anything; he kind that I had was simply a wooden curve with a strong tied onto it. You placed two fingers on the center of it and put the tip of the arrow through them and two fingers holding the back of the arrow to the string. Old fashioned, but I liked it.

Yeah, that's the biggest thing that bugs me about America is that everyone always feels the need to fix things up and paint over the history, the alternative being just building it to last and enjoying it as it originally was, you know?

*sigh* So lucky. I'd kill to live in China.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

snowunmasked In reply to DJStrife [2006-11-30 02:32:29 +0000 UTC]

Would you really? In Communist China? It's been much better in recent years, but still, I wouldn't be paid to live there.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DJStrife In reply to snowunmasked [2006-11-30 11:31:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, I wouldn't want to live there forever, but I wouldn't want to live ANYwhere forever. It's just a rich culture, you know? Unlike America, where we tear down anything that's more than 25 years old, China still has some culture in it.

Plus, seeing the world is always good. And China, so I hear, is the basic opposite of the US (good and bad.) The best education is that learned outside of classroom walls, right?

snowunmasked In reply to DJStrife [2006-12-03 07:17:54 +0000 UTC]

I don't know about mainland China, since that's not where I'm from. I'm from Hong Kong, which is kind of sort of part of China, but we're a special administrative region, which means we have our own laws, our own social/judicial/whatever system, all that.

Education in Hong Kong is pretty sucky, in the sense that although we learn things from way early on (Math being the biggest example), we're still being spoon-fed and you still have to follow the basic rule of just giving the teacher/professor what they want, as opposed to true expression of opinoin.
