i've always been fascinated with mary magdalene...and i like to think her and jesus were in love, he was a man...he had a human heart, so i think he could fall in love like any other man can. I think she really loved him too, and no i'm not too religious...i'm just fascinated by religion. It is said after jesus died...she went off somewhere and lived alone..but i don't think she was alone...cause he was always there with her..even in the darkest of places. wich i think a few can relate to, cause even though the ones you love are gone or far away, their still the light that guides you and fills your path with beauty.I listened to Apc's first cd while doin this too, and tori amos. I love them

An observation about this picture you have made. It appears to me that she is wrapped in the burial shroud of Christ (as we all are, in a way, at our Baptisms) and is standing in the Uncreated Light.

What a wonderful depiction. I am an Orthodox Christian and Mary Magdalene is my patron Saint. Our hagiography teaches that Mary went to Rome soon after the Resurrection and appealed to the Emperor for justice in the case of Christ. She alerted him to the errors of Pilate. Also the legend is that the Emperor, when hearing the story of the Resurrection commented that a man could not be raised from the dead any more than an egg could turn color and she handed him a miraculous red egg. About her history we are taught that both her and the Theotokos (Virgin Mary) went to live with the Apostle John in Ephesus where she died. The cave of the Seven Sleepers is the traditional burial place for her. She is one of the Myrrh-Bearers and is one of the few Saints to carry the title "Equal to the Apostles" as she was the first to witness Christ's resurrection. She is also called "The Apostle to the Apostles". She is also not considered a harlot in our history.

I constantly wonder this. Only love would make you stay with someone like she did. A normal friend would be sad, sure, but only the woman that loves you beyond all reason and thought would be with you.

I like the piece. You should read the DaVinci Code, I cant remember the author's name but its really interesting, and it backs up your theory of how Jesus and Mary Magdalene were in love.

ok, He was a mystic. The definition of mystics is that they love everyone with the same intensity. He loved her and the rest of the world along with her, that's why he made the ultimate sacrifice and humiliated Himself on the cross...you really should know of what you speak before sharing the pseudo-knowledge with others...some might even belive what you say...and teaching lies brings "bad karma" (to quote another "well" informed friend of mine)...

ok yeah..so i just wrote this really long response..this and the page closed so i lost it, and i'm pissed off enough as it is, so all i'm going to say now is.
First off I don't like being talked down to, i can't stand people who are condesceing, YOU don't know everything there is to know about religion or belifes, or about ME, so don't claim to be soooo "imformed".
Second, DID I SAY "yeah this is how is was, you must believe this, i'm teaching the right thing"!? NO..i didn't. I said " I like to think this is what was"...and it is what I BELIEVE.
People do have different belifes ya know? or do you expect everyone to believe what you do?
ohhh...excuse me i'm sooo sorry for believeing something different...i guess i'm liar....ohhh woe is me..."bad karma" sha'll follow my "misinformed" ass for the rest of my days. heh.

Let me tell you something, I've never heard of Jesus being called a "Mystic" i've heard of him being called a savior and the son of god. I know he was born from a woman's womb, so he was a human, he was a man, he was a carpenter and he had to deal with the same peer pressure and temptations we do...along with that whole "being the son of god" thing. I DO believe Jesus loved everyone, but i ALSO believed he could fall IN LOVE with a woman, since he was a man, and had feelings. He didn't even wanna be crucifyed, he asked god when he was up on the cross "WHY have you forsaking me" he didn't wanna do it...but he did it cause he knew it had to be done, it was what was right. SO check your sources, maybe it is you, who is "misinformed".
The bible has been translated tons of times, and it has been edited by the church..so no one REALLY KNOWS what is right. It could just all be story, but hey, that's what faith is, believeing in something even though you don't even know it's real or possiable.
You have no right to tell me what i believe is a lie, if that's what you believe then cool beans, you go on doing that, but don't push them onto me and tell me of how "misinformed" i am, Unless your Jesus Christ himself and your coming to tell me what You felt and were and did, wich i highly doubt you are.
I"m not a freaking relgion teacher, i'm a artist, i share what i believe through my own visual interpertation and it is MY RIGHT to do so. I trust people aren't stupid enough to follow everything i say, i know they have their OWN mind and their OWN beliefs.
and hell, "all you are is what your told and most of that's been lies" So you really don't have any way of knowing what you say is the "truth" cause you've only gathered it from the books you've read and the churches you've attended. like i said...that's faith for ya.
Ugh and what really pisses me off is the whole "you really should know of what you speak before sharing the pseudo-knowledge with others" and the "teaching lies brings bad Karma" , that is just dripping with arrogance
and just really is disdainful. Just plain rude, I don't go around doing that to people. It's one thing to share your perspective, it's another to just bash mine.

The blending of stocks is amazing! I'm really impressed by the bottom of the "skirt" as it was not that prettily draped to start with. The shaft of light and the birds are exquisite. Quite a striking image.
