Hello, I'm here on behalf of ProjectComment.

I like the delicate colors that you've used here. The yellow background fits well with the pink flowers, creating a harmonious tone. If you want to make things on the foreground pop more, you can play around with complementary colors. In this case, you could've used blue for the background. But it all depends on what you want. Analogous colors work as well and create a very calm atmosphere. The background is also very light and perhaps a little uneven. With a design like this, I know how hard it is to make an even background. Do you have masking fluid? Painting the background in parts can also work due to the placement of the branches.

As already mentioned the branches could use a little bit more variety with thickness. You could also push shading a bit more. Right now all the colors are pretty even in contrast. Shadows are very hard to do with watercolor because things tend to lift especially on certain papers. Since you're using watercolor pencils you can wet the tip of the pencil and pick up pigment directly from there and apply it onto the paper. If you add dry pigment on paper and wet it, there's a fair chance that stuff will lift and you will get barely any color change. But again, this depends on the paper and how easily pigment lifts. If you're having trouble getting your shadows to stick you could also use the watercolor pencils dry to get some shading and textures in.

All in all, this is a very pretty painting and it has a very calming atmosphere Watercolor is not an easy medium to handle. Just stick with it!

Hi, i'mΒ from projectcomment!

I love how solid your lines are! Your branches seem a little thick in some places where they might not be irl, but honestly it looks really nice! I like the green tinge on some of the branches, it makes it look very realistic! I also love the tiny little buds on the ends. Your shadows could be a little more defined, but I really like how you set up the contrast between the light side of one branch and then the dark shadow on the branch right behind it. I like how the big, pink flower is the focal point of the piece, but I think it needs a little something else in the bottom left corner just to balance it out and give the eye somewhere else to go. That said, I do like how the branch trails to the bottom right part of the page. I do think you could have a stray branch trail off of the page just to ground it in another spot (probably on the right side to balance it), but overall I think it looks really wonderful, and your colors are really delicate and whimsical!!! great job!!

Thank you for commenting! I'm glad you like the colors, I tried to make it realistic but I agree with you, there are branches that are a little bit to thick and my shading needs some work( I always struggle with that part). Your comment was very helpful, thank you!
