Description finished at last! I started this drawing almost a month ago, I'm glad I finished it!

This is Morgan the fairy (Morgan le fay, english for Morgan la fÊe, I guess).
I wanted to portray her as a dark and wild enchanteress, a powerful witch. But, as the same time, I wanted to insist on another aspect of Morgan's personnality. She's a witch, but also an Avalon priestess. She's the keeper of the pagan tradtions and of the knowledge of the ancient gods. I was quite influenced by Marion Zimmer Bradley's books.

I use pencils and pastels to give the moon shine effect. For the outfits, I used a book about celtic patterns some friends living in Brittany gave me. It was a mine of inspiration, celtic interlaces are pretty hard to design.

I hope you will like this piece (because I'm actually quite proud of it )

no wonder you're that proud of it - it's really a great work
the effort you made on all those details is really stunning - they look so realistic
you managed to show the complex personality of Morgaine - she was a legend and we could only guess who she really was
the colours you choose make me feel the mystery behind her - and that's stunning

Gorgeous, reminds me of Hazel Brown's work ( [link] ). You can really see how many people think Morgan was once a moon-goddess here.

gorgeous work, thanks for the link . In fact, if you read a little about celtic mythology, you will realise at once that a lot of feminine character we see as witches were nature goddesses for the celts.

Hehe, I know, just as Arthur and Gawain are two of the many "faces" of the sun god, and Saint Bridget was once the Irish goddess Brigid, or Bride(I`m Welsh and a pagan)

I knew for Bride/bridget, not for Arthur. but now you say it, it's quite obvious Arthur has characteristics of a sun god. Celtic mythology is so rich...

isn't she the sorceress in sir gawain and the green knight?

err, I don't know this tale very well, but I think she is. She's Arthur half-sister and a powerful witch

Your request for a "Serious, analytical critique of your artwork."

All your character drawings have a glow around them, this might work once or twice as a "surreal" effect, but not repeated. In future try to have a greater contrast between the character and background, one lighter or darker than the other.

The bridge of the nose continues into the eyebrow, this is to harsh, and the lips are not prepositional.

This image seriously lacks emotion, due to the facial expression, to change the feeling within this image add a single tear line on the left eye only, and you will see the difference.

Your detail is really exquisite on the outfit, and the monotone effect between the blue and green is really good.

Rating 6/10

well, thanks for this comment. I'm quite proud of the outfit, which took me a lot of time, both for research on celtic patterns and for drawing a colouring.

I'll try the idea of a contrast between the background and the character. I'm currently working on a painting with candlelight illumination (changes from moonlight )

If the face is still, it's because I wanted to depict her as a goddess, not a human being. I wanted her to have the stillness and coldness some statues have. but I'll keep in mind the eye trick for my next drawing.

nice use of green and blue. good detail. however, positions a bit awkward... awesome work anyway.

Thanks for this comment. I wanted her position to be quite unnatural, to emphasize her supernatural aspect.

Absolutely wonderful composition! I adore the design on the outfit she's wearing. The colors are fabulous. You chose an awesome scheme to work with in this piece. I love the intricate details into the dress working and armor working. I like the Celtic? symbols that are used in the design it speaks very well with the piece.

The soft colors leave an air of mysteries and make you wonder what she's exactly up to and why is she really there! Over all a wonderful piece Nice job!

thanks for this nice comments (always nice to have good feedback). I used a book to draw the symbols (it was quite useful and gave me inspiration).
coloring all the outfits was VERY long, especially because of the light coming from Morgan's skin. But I quite like the result

I must say well done!

You have stylized look that is not too overdone (though I think a few pieces are awkward, but its all right).

I really enjoy the colors. I think you got the point of power across but yet she seems to be someone who would not use it maliciously.

I love the clothing. Fabulous job on that.
