Description Dancougar of "Super Bestial Machine God----Dancougar" by Asahi Production

I am probably insane when I thought of having a crack at Dancougar but I certainly enjoyed the whole process. For a robot of the 80's,it has quite an insane amount of details which took me quite a while to get them right and also a torture to the paper which began to break up,when I started to erase the pencil lines after the inking.Have to use the photocopier to photocopy the original and work on the photocopied piece which made this illustration without an A4 original so far.

Tried to capture the sleek style of Mr.Obari Masami by not worrying too much about the logics in designs, with a little bit of modifications especially the joint parts.I used the reference in an advertisement, found in a model kit magazine named "Dengeki Hobby",that was promoting the re-released series on DVD's with Mr.Obari did the artwork.Originally,Dancougar's feet were cut off and since I have spent quite a while to capture it,might as well did the feet in a separate piece of paper especially I am going to play around with the photocopier later.

Since I used the reference from 2000,there is going to be some variations between the advertisement & the game of "3rd Super Robot Wars Alpha",released in 2005,with both of them done by Mr.Obari who was specifically hired for "3rd Super Robot Wars Alpha" as one of the way for the game to finish with a huge bang. The title above is based on one episode of the Anime when the Beast Mecha Force was badly outnumbered and the only way out was to unlock the final seal so all four units can combine as one.

As the four units began to combine, there's even an omnipotent voice that chanted,"Surpass the fury of the beast, surpass the anger of the human, become warrior of God again.Super Bestial Machine God,Dancougar!"

One of the few 4-unit combiners out there.
Even though it's like ridiculously unbalanced, it's still cool and a good thing it wasn't revealed instantly.

Thanks for the compliment.Took me a while since it is so detailed and I even tore the original A3 copy when erasing the pencil lines so I ended up with one of the copies of illustrations without the original A3 copy.

that's extremely neat. That's your best work, I think, the details on the arms and legs is great. Especially the feet. The pose is badass too, I can't think of anything to criticque.

Somvold In reply to TwistedNerve [2006-07-25 07:56:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for all the great compliments. This pose may be ordinary but Mr.Obari tend to made those robots appeared powerful & untouchable by crossing their arms, which is why he is always the favourite artist for fans who follow robot Animes.

Anyway, thanks for putting it on your list of favourites.
