Thank you; a nice complement coming from a talent such as yourself

It is through the eyes of our peers that we shall be judged.
I was merely saying that I appreciate having such a talented artist comment on my work

Haha! Well thanks, definitely, and my apologies. Sometimes I am confused and can't tell the difference between sarcasm and a compliment.

I try to stay clear of sarcasm; it has a negative vibe.
I prefer self-depreciating irony.
Anyhow, love your dinos. You aren't by any chanceΒ a biologist are you? I am a vegetation ecologist myself.

Thank you. No, just a Natural History Illustration student, (I guess that makes me a naturalist of sorts?) but I also consider myself a fantasy illustrator. I have an interest for science, and I like working with scientists, though. Pleased to meet an ecologist!

Β Natural History Illustration student: very cool.
And fantasy illustration, you say. I’ve done a bit of that myself, mostly watercolors.

Β I used to paint and draw, now I have two new creative outlets; photography and writing.
Especially the writing demands a lot of my free time, and there just isn’t enough time for everything. And I love photography because it gets me out into the wilds of nature.
I’m thinking of getting back to painting and drawing one day. We’ll see.

Amanita's are quite special.
Used by shamen in Siberia to visit the nether world ...

DragonKira In reply to Son-of-Incogneato [2011-03-05 20:17:35 +0000 UTC]

Not only by siberian shamans, as far as I know! Also vikings and dacians used it!

Wow, I think it's great that you are a botanist! I would love to have your knowledge!
I guess it could be, many things about vikings are misunderstandings, like the fact that they were wearing horned helmets!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Son-of-Incogneato In reply to DragonKira [2011-03-06 13:04:05 +0000 UTC]

Exactly - same thing with the horned helmets.
A professor I worked with years ago is the top mushroom man in Norway. He wrote an interesting article about the Vikings and the Amanita. There was no historic proof that they ever used it. Plus, it wouldn't be very smart to go into battle totally stoned on Amanita mushrooms. You wouldn't last very long ...

Wow, thats very interesting and yes, you have a point there...a stoned warrior won't last too long in battle!
I think it's amazing that there is someone who is a specialist in mushrooms! I would like to meet him!
