"That didn't go so badly with our new addition at the WEF." Sophie turned around. "You mean with our unpronounceable?" she grinned because she knew how much Codo hated it when she called Lou that. It sounded so negative to his ears. Yet her statement was quite true, at least as far as the fearless jumper was concerned. She didn't have it in French and therefore also not with the name of the horse, which was indeed pretty and imposing, but sounded quite ridiculous when Sophie pronounced it, because she could hardly get a French word out with the right intonation. She herself always said that she couldn't do anything with snobbish languages like French and Oxfort English. She had nothing against the people there, but the language was frightening.

But this time Codo ignored the point completely. "Feel like taking him on again?" "You're not sending me away because I was obnoxious yesterday because I got so bored again?" asked Sophie suspiciously, and Codo rolled his eyes. "What you're thinking again. Pemberley Park is having another event and I'd like to send Lou there. And since you're the main jumper here, I'll ask you first." "Um...yeah sure, I'd love to." Head jumper, it sounded important and Sophie liked that. Very much.

"Pemberley Park did it to you, didn't it, boss?" "I wouldn't have donated to the event park otherwise, would I?" Sophie sighed. "Now don't be so angry. I just wanted to see if you weren't getting your hopes up. Just because you put money in there doesn't mean we'll get preferential treatment."

"What you're thinking again." Codo shook his head. "I've invested strategically. Such a big compound with so many training opportunities! And we all get to use them!" Sophie rolled her eyes and headed toward the tack room. "The main thing is that you don't have to grow crops here, or what?" But the boss just shrugged. "I just don't see providing that much ground for just a couple of horses. Not when there are other possibilities. I have nothing against land acquisition per se, nor against construction costs. But it has to be worthwhile at some point, and it's not with two horses hopping around an expensive cross-country course a day."

She was actually quite happy that Codo was looking for other training facilities, if she was honest, Sophie thought to herself as she stood in the stables at Pemberley days later, getting Lou ready for show jumping. "You know Lou, the Boss isn't such a bad guy. He just has some cranky opinions sometimes."

"I heard that." complained Codo who had suddenly appeared at the stall door and Sophie jumped back startled. "Where did you come from now? Don't you have other things to do than scare me?" Codo grinned. "Actually, I do, but I want to know how the boy is doing." "The boy is your new heart project or what?" grumbled Sophie, brushing the last straws from her mane. "At least until Ben is ready."

"I don't get you." Sophie grumbled, turning and grabbing the saddle blanket. "First you agree with my sister that specialty breeds are so stupid, and then you go and get two of the critters?" if there was one thing Sophie hated like the plague it was when people changed their minds in the blink of an eye. "I only had Ben bred because I hoped I would get a second Whispers, I was so fond of him." "Well, I guess that plan backfired," came from Sophie, who was just putting the saddle on Lou's back. "And what about this sweetie here? You made quite an effort to get him." Now just the bridle and then we were ready to go. "So you're still asking? I mean, look at him! He has beautiful birdcatcher spots! How can you not want him there!"

Sophie opened the stall door and grinned. "Seriously...just the Birdcatcher spots? Everything else didn't matter?" Codo nodded, staring in love at the white spots poking out of the black fur. "Any other colors I should know about?" joked Sophie. "Well..." pondered Codo, following her to the warm-up arena. "Blue roan, bay roan, especially if they're really nice brown so with mocha as the main color and then coffee brown on the head, black or dark brown with silver genes, and if it's got feathers at the hooves I'm taken with it too."
