Description This is my submission to the "Liberty" contest over on

This is a 7 shot HDR image created in Photoshop CS5 using the HDR Pro feature. I tried Photomatix, but it didnt cut it for this project

Please allow me to explain some things.

The subject of this picture is my lucky pocket coin. Its a 1986, 100 Franc, 60% silver, commemorative Piedfort. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of France building and giving the USA the statue of liberty.

I carry this coin on my person at all times. It is a very special bit of metal. I Love America. I am proud of it, However I am not proud of the distasteful things we have done, or the people who lead us. I am not proud of America for any of the people who live here or any of the stereotype that defines us. I am proud of The land, the history and the forefathers. I am proud of our origins. This coin never lets me forget the real America and the history behind it. We are not an island, but a bit of something greater. But most of all, it reminds me how we are slowly drifting away from the world, our allies in humanity, and liberty itself.

"Life, LIBERTY, and the pursuit of happiness" adorns the pages of our declaration of independence. Independence was the reason for the founding of these The United States: For the people to govern themselves. America may no longer represent liberty as it used to, but this coin represents Americas past, which IS liberty.

Thanks for your time! I hope you actually read all that

Thanks. The coin is a piedfort, which is French for "Heavy Foot" (dont ask me why). What it means is the coin is double thick. Easy to stand on its side
Made things really easy for me

Very well said, scary times in these United States, I agree...let's hope when it all comes down that these principles figure in somewhere. Excellent macro here.

I'm big myself on explaining my shots and the thoughts behind them as much as I can, though i've been a bit lax lately due to time constraints when I get a moment. You said it well, our liberty here in the U.S. is shrinking...

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who cares about having people understand my art.
Although I think we are in the minority

Oh indeed, to have nothing in the artists comments except a smiley face or a couple of dots, turns me right off to the photo no matter how lovely it is..it's like just throwing something out there to see if the bait is taken..and it's even more frustrating if you see the artist not replying to the comments..and I understand if there are a few hundred comments it's hard to reply to each individually but somewhere in there say, hey thanks so much for all the compliments, much appreciated, some people don't seem as passionate about the impact of their art as they are the attention it gets..

I know! Its like a slap in the face to the intellectual artist. when there is no cometary, it feels like "hey! I made this with no meaning or emotion, but it looks pretty! LOVE ME." However when I see comments that show there is a brain behind talented hands, I am MUCH more likely to respond positively to the piece, even if it isn't that great technique-wise. Just look at the Color Field Theorists. I love them, but most people hate them. there "art" isn't that good, but the intelligence behind their works is dazzlingly brilliant

I'm right with you about the commenting, art, and attention-getting too!
