Description This started out as a random doodle, but then, despite the wrong proportions and the excessive cartooniness, I decided to post it... I guess this can best be described as... well, happy Vimes, in his own dark joyful triumph-of-justice kind of way... Even though he does look like a mass murderer here, I still think it got, more or less, close to my vision of him, or at least of him in one of his states of mind. I'm not sure if the title is precisely quoted from "Jingo", as intended, because I don't have the English version of the book...but yeah, I suppose those of you who know the character get the idea.

One day I'll seriously draw a completely decent Vimes, I swear.

He totally needs a cigar. That would make it perfect

Whoah. Couldn't have gotten a better comment. There's something so dramatic about him,it's nice how every dramatic line fits him without ever sounding poserish...

Pratchett has TALENT! (And so do you)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Soulstripper In reply to CaptainQuirk [2008-08-22 09:33:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, very true. Heh,and thanks. Pratchett has the ability to make a book's story flow like a movie. Speaking of that,it'd be nice if they could make a (DECENT) movie based on the Watch,as there is a Hogfather and The Color of Magic movie... but then they'd have to pick the actors very very carefully...

I refuse to watch any Discworld movies. They'll never be nearly as good as the ones in my head.

Good for you. They're low-quality kids' movies, never having the depth, energy OR humor of the Discworld books. You can only be amused if you read the book in advance, and even then you would be disappointed in the horrible play and choice of actors. They got right only Death (not hard to achieve,of course), the Oh God of Hangovers, Twoflower and Nobby,I think, because the actor looked like a small filthy ape/donkey in a barely human shape But Rincewind was a hundred years old in the movies, and sounded like Little Red Riding Hood's grandma X_x So,yeah, books are always better.

How about the Harry Potter movies? I saw just the first one, which wrecked too much for me.

I accidentally laid eyes on the poster for the third one, where Sirius Black looks like some creepy homeless guy. Like House and the sasquatch had a baby. Aw, man...I always thought of Sirius Black as being hot.

Haha, you're damn right, and yeah, the HP movies spoil way too much for anyone who knows anything about the books. You're so damn right about Sirius, when I saw the movie I couldn't stop laughing at him for months. Speaking of creepy homeless guys, what do you say about the role of Lupin? It's so sad it's even funny. The thing with movies based on books is,they get minor characters right, but the major ones always look like total morons.

CaptainQuirk In reply to Soulstripper [2008-09-04 05:08:03 +0000 UTC]

Maybe that's because the major characters have more riding on them.

I don't know about Lupin because I (thankfully) never saw him in the films.

Yeah,I completely agree.

Well,I could always give you a link to some movie-Lupin images, but unless you really hate the character and want to laugh at his adaptation misfortune, I'd suggest not. I mean, for goodness' sake,he's got 3 large scars on his face and later on,he's even got a beard!!! What can I say?

I'm so incredibly glad you think so. As it always is with the most favorite character drawing attempts, it's really hard for me to draw Vimes in all his splendor.(I will, one day, though!) Your encouragement is appreciated endlessly!
