Description Steven was still unable to take his eyes off his walking companion. Jane Smith was wearing a red tube-top and tight pair of jean shorts that hugged her in all the right places. Despite the fact he has seen her hard, amazonian body in all its naked glory, this ensemble was a sight to behold. She knew it too, he could tell by the way her green eyes sparkled when she caught his gaze or those of other people around her. Despite not wearing her sapphire blue contact lens and fixing her hair differently, she was still recognized by a few individuals during their run and even signed a few autographs on random objects as they made their way through the park. Steven enjoyed his own incognito status as "that hot guy Jane Smtih was with" since most people still associated Idol with his previous look. Jane winked at him playfully and he found himself having to shake free of his thoughts. A coy smile formed on his lips.

"So, you hear about Firebrandi's latest run in with Kim Paler?" he asked.

"I heard something about it on the news. What's the deal with her anyway? If she an elf or a sprite of some kind?" Jane replied.

Steven shook his head. "Brandi? Far as I know she's just short of stature."

Jane held up her hands in mock protest, "Wasn't sure. You never know in this town. Like that obnoxious Blitzen chick, what is she an alien?"

"Atlantean. She's from the kingdom of Atlantis and a princess."

"So she's a walking Walt Disney advertisement..."Jane cocked her head to the side in thought. "Well that makes sense given her obviously delicate sensibilities."

"When did you work with her?" Steven asked raising an eyebrow.

"During a battle with something called the Siege. Damn monster was rampaging through a bunch of us, including that Mindy Marvel that's also involved in politics...don't get me started..." Jane chuckled, shaking her head, "Blitzen, myself and that tall, handsome Ultra-Man."

"Tall and handsome huh?" Idol retorted rubbing his chin and looking away.

Jane nodded. "Tall, dark haired, muscular...about the only other cape there that had any real balls."

"Did you check his out?" Idol joked, then realized it was a half-joke and felt guilty for saying it. Jane only laughed and narrowed her eyes at him.

"No, but he would have been a wild stallion between my legs I imagine."

"Now Ultra-Man, he's an alien I believe. Velorian possibly."

Jane shrugged,"Figures he'd have something wrong with him."

"Well I'm glad I passed the test." Idol replied.

"OH sugah, you are 100% grade-A all American beef." she said in her most sultry Southern voice.

For a moment Idol considered asking her about her recent interaction with the Soviet Superwoman. Jane had apparently just stopped some madman from maiming or killing a roomfull of people when Olga had  confronted her for a brief, and he could only image, highly tense meeting. He quickly pushed the thoughts aside. Speaking about the Soviet or anything about her home dimension might sour Jane on the evening and given her attire and playful mood, that was something he was going to avoid at all cost. "Well I'm very glad to be much more to your liking."

"Most definitely."

"Think you could take him in a fight?" Idol asked.

"I think I could, yeah. Most of the heroes in this city don't like to get their hands dirty. He'd be one helluva tussle, but I think I could drop him."

"What about Blitzen?" Steven asked, his curiosity piqued.

"Easy win." Jane smiled confidently.

"Mindy Marvel?"

"Yup....and before you ask, I'll add FlamePixie to that list." She said sticking out her tongue at him.

"Anyone you'd have a problem with? In the Guardians I mean?" Idol was quick to throw that last part in. He knew she had lost hand to hand with the Crimson Conservative and of course Olga before. He also avoided mentioning Walkiria, who he personally thought could drop Jane as well.

"General Bardak would be a tough customer. He's the leader, has a big sword...not sure if it's just for show...and wears armor. Has a military background and has seen a war...where ever the hell he's from supposedly. Also Cedric. The guy may look like just another built, tough, blonde sex-machine but he's thrown down with Genocide before. If he'd put down the reefer he might give a good throw-down."

"American Mom?" Idol asked, stopping and crossing his arms.

Jane waived a finger. "Mom's a good friend and besides, how do I know you aren't her right now?" Without waiting for an answer Jane reached down and cupped his package with her hand. "Never mind...it's you for sure." she winked back at him before straightening back up. "Well you've been the one asking all the questions, but I'm concerned how you've been getting along without O52 in your life."

“Considering the past few days I’d say things are looking up.” Steven answered quickly with a smile. He didn’t want to go down this path with the conversation even though it was a damn good question.

Jane slowed her pace and tugged at his arm, turning him around to face her “Wow. My first turn and you try to dodge the question? Really? More than once you’ve made the comment that the Organization was your life and now it’s gone. So what becomes of Steven Chance now?”

Idol could see it in her eyes that this was something she wasn’t going to just drop. Perhaps she genuinely was concerned for him he pondered for a moment before addressing her question. “To tell you the truth Jane I have no idea what to do with myself now. I got a text last night from an associate in DC still connected to the last remnants of O52. He gave full assurance that it’s over and we don’t have to be looking over our shoulders anymore. Hale has moved on to other concerns and is content with the considerable damage he accomplished.”

“That’s good to know. Why didn’t you fill me in on this earlier sugah?”

Steven chuckled “I didn’t want to take the chance that you might throw me out. Believe it or not that’s the honest truth and not a joke. I might not move back into my old place. Marion is settled in there and considering I’m indirectly responsible for her current physical state if she wants to stay there and finish her research I might find another place.”

“That’s stupid.” Jane sharply returned. Though she hadn’t exactly taken a tour of his home what she had seen was impressive. “As a part of the Organization she knew there would be risks. I don’t see any reason you should feel responsible and even if you were it’s still no reason to give away your home. I thought you were supposed to be smart.” She nudges him after the last comment.

“I said that I might find another place. You don’t know Marion, being under the same roof with her might not be pleasant.” Idol explained then added “You’re right though, I’ll tough it out until she leaves.”

“She did seem the bitchy type when I met her.”

Steven looks toward her with an expression of disbelief “Getting lifted out of a wheelchair by your neck has that effect on some people babe.”

Jane tried to make a silly looking pout but instead starts laughing “Okay, that was a little mean. Guess I need to keep working on my people skills huh?”

“Just a little.”

“So, do you have any old enemies that might come after you now that you’re solo?” Prodigy’s tone was now much more serious. He could tell she wasn’t going to let him dodge the O52 questions.

He looked up in thought for a few seconds before answering “Two. Maybe three but nothing I shouldn’t be able to handle on my own.” Taking her hand he led his beautiful companion to a nearby bench to have a seat. “I be honest with you Jane, I have no clue what’s next for me. Since I was… returned, the Organization really has been my life. My private life, the business I helped start, friends, all of it somehow related to O52.”

Jane sat down close beside him “Maybe this would be a good time to figure out you own secrets sugah. I mean you’ve still got the resources but now there’s no responsibilities to tie you down. I’d put that talking computer AI thingamajig to work at digging up the details around your disappearance. Sure you’ve probably done that before but another look with your now undivided attention might turn up something. Maybe while you’re doing that you can figure out what you want to be when you grow up.”

Idol laughed at her comment and nodded his head in agreement “Yeah I definitely need to do that. That’s a good suggestion Jane. A part of me has always just been content not knowing the details of that big gap in my life but like you said, now is the perfect time to concentrate on that.” He stands up and holds his hand out to Jane “Would you like me to…”

Steven is cut short as his phone rings with a tone he had set to indicate and urgent message is coming from SPLICE. He answered quickly and put it on speaker “Go ahead SPLICE.”

“-Pardon my interruption Idol but something has just occurred that you need to be made aware of. Four have been killed at a Republican Party rally in Austin Texas by a bomb placed at the base of a podium. Among those killed was Congressman Hale. There are currently no known suspects.-“

“Thank you SPLICE.” Steven said before pocketing the phone.

“Wonder if this is what your contact meant by Hale not being a problem anymore?” Jane asked with a raised brow. She could tell by his puzzled expression that her guess had already crossed his mind.

“I hope not but it’s definitely suspicious. It’s not like I’m going to mourn his death but this leaves unanswered questions.” He looked around the area thinking back on the last six months and how much had changed within that time. The last few days spent with Jane had been much needed vacation. “I need to make some calls and try to find out if there might be any backlash from this.”

Jane nodded her response, "Go take care of what you need to Steven. Mom has a case she wants my help with so we've both got our responsibilities for now."

Idol reached forward and kissed her passionately on the lips, running his hand down the side of her face as he did. She returned it with equal measure. "Hopefully this won't take long and means that it's over. You be careful out there."

"Better not be gone too long." she winked playfully at him, "and you know me, I always play well with others."

Nice one! I know I've said it before, but it's nice to see Jane getting a second chance. Or is this third?

As long as she stays on the straight and narrow, her hypothetical fights with Angel Falls' finest will stay as that.

Nah, Mindy's willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, unless she gets information that proves otherwise.

Ultra-Man I guess it's a good thing I'm one of the good guys then. And....well, technically I am Velorian. Not sure how that's something "wrong with me", I was born a super human, I didn't become one by being a glorified lab rat.

Ultra-Man No argument on the first two and since you never experienced the third, ask my wife, she'll gladly share the details. As far as the "not being on of you.", lets put it this way.....comparing one of my kind to a regular earth-born human is like comparing a tiger to a house cat, an inside house cat that you cant let outside because he'll most likely get hit by a car. You go back far enough, we came from earth.....granted a long ass time ago.

Yeah, Jane would definately be the kind of person who'd regard "you're a credit to your race/people" as a perfectly fine compliment.

Yes, but slowly. And I doubt she'll ever be able to completely shake that stuff off. The best we can probably hope for is somewhere around Connie's level.

It's just occurred to me, considering what era she came from, wouldn't she have faced some discrimination herself for being a woman? Nothing too serious and they probably shut up once she got her powers, but still...

Once again Jane allows her preconcrption to blind her.
In this case she seem to base her judgement on purely physical factors, completly ignoring her opponent inner strength. I have no doubt that she's superior to Mindy in terms of pure strength and technique, but Mindy is one of those people that just won't give up. Unless she beats Mindy until there's no atom of life left in her, I'm very positive that Mrs. Crane will come back and teat Jane a new one somehow.

I like how Smith is casually judging the pedigree of everyone she comes into contact with.

Thanks for the Crimson Conservative mention, and is it now open season on explicitly stated members of political parties? But seriously, I’m a little surprised that Jane merely raised an eyebrow when she heard that three other Texan Republicans were killed just to get one bad guy.

I think it was more of a "glad the guy that tried to kill me was killed" sort of moment, regardless of party. I don't know if his party has anything to do with the plot Shotgun is cooking up to be honest.

Funny thing is that the Georgian accent isn't that Southern from first hand experience. If you want a serious blend of southern accents head to Alabama and North Texas for a more accurate sound. It makes it even funnier that I reside in the Southern portion of Texas so I have heard some pretty strong and unique Southern accents. Also funny when I travel to Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, or Houston and hear people comment with, "You have such a thick Southern accent." Nice little story, and interesting seeing the Guardians from the perspective of a non Guardian. I also find it a bit interesting how I looked at the picture and those two look like they are from the Jersey area instead of one being from Georgia and one being from lands unknown.

The dialogues are written like as for theater; more living; I had a easy reading because of this (I am French with a just correct English level so I appreciated to read this story which was very well written and easy to understand)
Cool to see this style; I am doing a too novelist style using the "he said, he answered, he replied, he asked..." Which are not my preffered style effect when I am not fluent in English; would you help/ advice me at writing?
