Description Due to many pirate-y things in my life as of late, I have been tempted to do a little fan art. I considered turning said fan art into a stamp. I knew the only type of font that would really suit it would be something "pirate"-esque. And, of course, I couldn't find anything to fit that bill. SO! I did what I felt I needed to...and made meself a pirate pixel font, ARG!

I based my letters off of Piece of Eight Font as it was the closest I could find to what I wanted. Each letter is hand-pixelled and as close to this as I could make it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some advice when using this:
It is used best at 3 pt (8 pixel).
As a heads up, in some instances you might have to add a random letter to have your word come in crisp. You can then go in and erase the letter manually. (If someone knows of another way to correct that, please share. I am still new at font making and am kinda guessing as I go. )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Example:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you use this, I would love a link to see what you made with it. Credit would also be nice, but isn't really necessary
* Thank you to ^stuck-in-suburbia and =BlissfullySarcastic for helping me tweak the final product.
is this font available for commercial purposes? such as the creation of a logo for a gaming channel.
First you download it, then you have to unzip it (with .winrar I think...google it ), then you copy the .ttf file into you "Fonts" folder under control panel. Hope that helps!
LOL I could have used this for my pirate stamp! (I actually am working on a pirate font because of that, but it will be much bigger and different.) I love how you managed to make this stylized and so tiny, too. Very nice work.
I was toying with the idea of making this for a week or so now...then I saw your stamp! I thought, dang...I should have gotten on this sooner. I wondered if you would be making your own since there aren't very many (read that as next to none) available on dA. And thank you! It was tough getting those letters to look nice being so small.
Well, when working out the styling for the one I want to do, I was thinking I wouldn't be able to get too small. But that is because of the big flourishes. I think this is awesome since I always love and need tiny fonts (as you know).
It's addictive, isn't it?
Though, the pirate font will probably wait a couple of months. I'm actually working on a pixel font based directly on my own writing. It's been a fun challenge.
It's so very addictive! I really didn't think I would be able to make another, what with having done my major inspiration pieces (goth and pumpkin). Now I know I just might have a few more in me!
I have toy with doing something with my own handwriting...but that would take a dedication I don't think I really have in me at the moment. All I want to do now is crochet. :moew:
Good luck with yours!
Well, the thing to remember about fonts is they are not like emotes. Very often, I have a pixel font WIP in my folder for 6-8 months before finishing it. Sometimes I get an inspiration and can pixel out a font set in a few days. I have some great fonts I want to render, but I end up doing something different ahead of it. The beauty of them is that you upload them every now and then and that usually works out the best.
It is interesting to hear how others make fonts. The few I have made I manage to do in one, maybe two, sittings (my bum hates me ). You take you time and let it blossom over time. I have to pixel the letters out in Corel, and then I will repixel them at the fontstruct.com website. I was talking to `stuck-in-suburbia and she just constructs right on the website. Who knew it could be such a diverse craft?
Mirz123 In reply to SparklyDest [2011-07-25 12:20:54 +0000 UTC]
True that. But, I do think it's a bit different when you are doing overly stylized genre fonts. I can sit down and pixel out a regular set in one sitting or online (like I did originally for my BMW fonts). But when you are doing something like your gothic or pirate fonts, there's really a lot more attention to detail that's needed. I do know people who can sit down and do it off the cuff, but most fontologists I've talked to need a bit of time to really work out the design.
