From now on, there will be no one bearing the name of Suzaku Kururugi, but a symbol named Zero instead.
"May we... meet again in a better life..."

It doesn't have to be like Awakening ... But there must be a number of ideas that Suzaku attempted to travel back in time to change everything so the Zero Requiem will not happen, but of course in reality, there are consequences.
My version is that following the trend of Awakening (kinda, and I haven't seen any playthrough of it). He travelled back in time to the place where he chased and found out the true identity of Zero, but rescued him before the mask (Lelouch was wearing) was shattered via the power of Geass (Also why is the Exalt looks like the symbol of Geass? Hmm?). So in short: Suzaku chased Zerolouch, he was firing the gun, but Zerozaku got there on time - took Lelouch out of the scene and reverse the time - so the Suzaku in the Lancelot pilot suite seemed to have seen Zero walked into the cave with the entrance to the C's World, but when the time reverse, he saw no one in front of the door. The consequences are of course, Suzaku failed to capture Zero thus leading to his assumed doom, Lelouch blamed on Zerozaku (and himself, personally because he's a tsundere But you can't blame Zerozaku becasue he really wants to see you ) for not considering the consequences, and made a desparate attempt to do something to save the Suzaku in the current timeline - in EU, where Suzaku was given a chance (strangely) under the orders of the 98th Emperor.

Welp, that's my idea so far.

I also assidently spilled some water on to the drawing, which is outlined by fineliners, which helped creating the effect of turning into mist. Tell me how you feel.
