Hello all! Two months ago, I participated in Inktober, presenting my artist take on Norse characters, streamlining certain aspects while staying true to the myths. However, I only scratched the surface of those strange beings from this lore so starting today I’ll be making new illustrations for this expanded roster everyday. Todays image introduces the Vanir Warriors Beyla and Byggvir. Not much lore and history is mentioned from what I could find about them so I’ve created a story for them, bear with me. Long ago, during the Æsir-Vanir war, these two met on the battlefield and soon fell head over heels for one another. They soon get married after that, studying magic and the unique flora and fauna of the nine realms. After the war they swore never fight again. But as Fimblevinter started, the exiled Odin sends a group of Berserkers to attack the Vanir (in retaliation for their part in Baldr’s death), resulting in 12 dead and many more injured included Beyla’s right arm. Reinvigorated by this attack, the pair joined Freyr’s army with their dwarf friend Linda making a powerful sword made Uru metal similar to Thor’s Stone Hammer for Byggvir and a metal floating arm that could harness other types of magic easily. Believe me, they are a force to be reckon with. Similar to Freya and Freyr, they appear in the more Vanir natural form closely resembling elves and often look like their part of the tree itself. Same goes for other Vanir gods.
