Description here i am, fashionably late to new discoveries as usual. i had this drawing done the day of it's discovery but could only post it now.

any way, as the title states, this is Huanansaurus ganzhouensis. a Chinese oviraptor species closely related to the Mongolian Citipati. this roughly 2.5 meter long theropod was known from relatively incoplete skeleton with the exception of a rather complete skull.

It's so awesome!! I love how bird-like it is! The anatomy is just fantastic! The wattles, the feather covering, the tail, the feet, but the tail at most, it's absolutely amazing!! I wish I could draw birds like this!

Normally I don't find oviraptorids very interesting (I'm more a fan of basal sauropodomorpha, abelisaurs, basal coelurosauria and early thyreophora) but this picture here is my absolute favourite oviraptorid picture, it makes this Huanansaurus look very interesting and fascinating.

Great work!  I like the rather subdued facial coloration.

thank you. i used mostly color pencils for the feathers, but some touch up with some markers are all what i used to color this drawing
