Hello
Here is your critique from a #FeedbackFrenzy participant

Firstly,i love the amount of detail you've captured.
The composition is brilliant as well.
The bokeh adds a nice touch and the tones are lovely.
By looking at the swirling foam,id say you put quite some work into this shot
Well done.

If i could improve this shot,id reduce the size of the water mark

Critique for FF ^^

I really like how well the cup stands out, and using such a simple background really puts it in focus. I also like how you can see texture in the foam and in the heart. The way the foam is almost going over the cup and is rounded adds nice shape to the heart. I also thinks it's nice that the heart is upside down because it makes it different. This feels really Christmassy and homey, and it's the type of thing that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Very beautiful

Critique for Team 26

This piece is in fact very very charming and I do want to saddle up next to that cup of coffee and be able to sink into its hot decedance of delicious taste and over the top decorations in that wonderfully decorated plate and cup. I think this is really a neat shot, not everything is in focus and really your eye is drawn to that heart and swirl on top that is in the coffee which is a lovely visual. The background as well isn't at all distracing nor is th enegative space that you have on the left side of the image. While it is heavily weighted and asymetrical I really just feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for that cup of coffee. ((yes I am a coffee a holic.))

Good luck with the contest and keep up the wonderful work to look at!

Hello I hope you're having fun with the contest!

This is a stunning photograph. I have seen many photographers take their spin on this subject, and every time I see it, it's magical. I really like the bokeh effect; it's like the sun is reflecting through a window, perhaps. I would be super excited should I receive such a coffee or cocoa at a café! When I look at this picture, it makes me smile.
However, I think another angle would have brought it more to life. Maybe an angle like this: [link] or even this one: [link] but you would need to cut some of the cup off to get this look on it. This is also a bit of a shame, I think but it works in some cases!

I would personally have loved to see this gorgeous subject head on from the top as so: [link] because it would make so many smooth lines in your picture! In addition to the round shape you would achieve, you also wouldn't be forced to cut some of the cup out, and it would also show the spoon a bit more. I think maybe it would have been charming if you placed the spoon in the cup somehow, but I would be afraid to ruin the heart-image; I just feel it would be more interesting and/or original
I actually think in this case, I would have cut a rather large part of the left side off, even into the actual coffee. This would eliminate the spoon, but it would also eliminate the large area of white to the left

I see you took this picture with a Nokia. I don't really have an idea of how mobile phones take pictures. The mobile pictures I remember, were horrible. A phone couldn't take pictures to save its life! I actually am finding it hard to believe that this is such a phone-photo, because the quality is super! Parts of the cup are grainy quality-wise, and that's where it shows. But the actual coffee is spot on! I can't believe technology these days
I would advice you to take more pictures with your Nikon. I can see on your profile that you have one! But I guess it's a bit heavier to carry around.

Overall, this picture is super great ! I wish I one day can make such a coffee or maybe even a cup of tea?.. I hope you will keep taking pictures!

I hope you found this critique somewhat helpful, and that you know how these are my opinions only and that I am in no way a professional
I'm just an amateur who wants to help

yes my sweet amateur, you helped!))
firstly - you've write a big and good critique...and make me glad...so that I'm now thx to you*
secondly - in some way you say right thing and I will go through them one by one in order now)
_________________________
You said about trying another angles and personally have loved to see this gorgeous subject head on from the top - I have photo of different angles and the top too))))
But...despite that...this one much more like the rest)
_________
It was so delicious, that I can't not just replace the spoon - I was sorry to drink it
_________
This Nokia isn't just mobile...its fantastic cameraphone)))
I trying to take the best I can with it ^^
but...actually...you can't believe that mobile can take so good picture - you partly right - it was a cafe with horrible lightning, I was far from day light, table was small so I can't made good composition with spoon and rest - and the quality of photo is really poor, honest, I've stretched in photoshop all that I can...(thats why I've lost in harshness a bit)
I'm hide nothing from you
_________
And the last - I didn't have Nikon at that time at all)...I've buy it a couple weeks ago)
so now a regret a bit...because in that day I took this [link] and much more)))

So, huuuh...thank you for your time and good words)
will wait for your answer here ^^.

You have photos from the top too? Aw, I love that
Oh that's why the quality isn't the best. Because you stretched it. Hmm.. It's such a shame when you have a good subject but the settings are not good enough! For example a table that is too small
Wow if you had had the Nikon back then, it would have been amazing But you have to work with what you got, and it's a super picture! Now you just have to get the opportunity to take such a picture again!!
I have a Canon and I am really happy with it. My best buy ever (maybe except for my computer). I love it so much, and I'm sure Nikon is the same!

Onistocke In reply to SPLinTER-OPS [2012-07-04 15:04:27 +0000 UTC]

It's not all bad, no.. If only it was straight from the top, but I guess this is ok too
If you had turned the cup a little, I think it would have worked better
And also, the quality is as you said not really great Such a shame.. I can't wait until you take a picture like this with your Nikon
