The Capella heavy tank was designed by the MIAT corporation of Mars to compliment their Calypso medium tank line which was beginning to lag behind tanks fielded by companies on Earth. It was based off a an outdated prototype and received substantial upgrades in order to modernize it. The most notable upgrade was that it was now able to function in a vacuum, using hydrogen fuel cells and a radioisotope thermoelectric generator to power it, and having a de-pressurizable fighting compartment. Twin 140mm railguns were chosen for the design, notable for their square projectiles. They had access to three munition types: scatter shot (shotgun like), shatter shot (blunt projectile meant to shatter armor), and AP shot. For protection, the MDAE armor package was added. The amor is made of numerous composites designed to counter shaped charges, lasers, and kinetic projectiles up to 1,700m/s. The armor also came with special paint referred to as NECCAD which is both capable of absorbing radiation (from nuclear fallout for example) and changing color and texture to match its surroundings. The vehicle is also equipped with large radiators to disperse heat more efficiently in the vacuum. Crew accommodations are comfortable with beds, a stove, and small toilet. The vehicle can remain unserviced for at most a week before its fuel needs to be restocked.
