Queen Crest ended up inheriting the title of Queen when her mother, Queen Tide, unexpectedly died after complications from eating a whale bone which turned out to be a bit too sharp. Crest was pretty young with not much interest in being Queen at the age of 5, but she was Queen Tide's only daughter and she was lucky enough to be a born animus (something the SeaWing royalty hadn't had in some generations, and were more than ecstatic to finally have one again)
The title of Queen may have been better given to one of Queen Tide's sister, but many SeaWings argued that they wanted an Animus to be Queen and protect them instead. Not to mention that the sister's were disagreeing over who should inherit it. So Queen Crest it was.

Of course most of the leading was done by others while Queen Crest was young, and she spent most of time reading and exploring around the Kingdom.
She wasn't exactly fond of the trivial duties of being a Queen, though she wasn't bad at it. Queen Crest most disliked the boring meetings she was forced to go through of many dragons trying to convince her to use her powers on something (which Crest felt most of the time was pointless, when hard work would do the job just fine and be much more satisfying.) Queen Crest pretty much turned nearly every request down, save for the few extreme ones.
What she did come to enjoy about the meetings though, was how much she learned about other dragons (especially since this was her only way to see and interact with non-SeaWing dragons at the time.) Crest felt that she learned much about different kinds of perspectives and personalities that dragons have, which fascinated her.

At 7, Queen Crest eventually managed to convince her family to let her study at Jade Mountain Academy, where she could learn much more of her interests like philosophy. They argued that she would be at risk - especially with her refusal to use her powers when she didn't HAVE to. But Crest persisted.

She wasn't exactly a student there, more-so she came once or twice every week for her classes, accompanied by guards. She wasn't fully happy with this, but at least she could be there and see many more different kinds of dragons. She spent as much time as she could talking with others and getting to know them in some way, trying to talk to every dragon at least once - teachers included. Crest became pretty well-liked because of this, though sometimes she'd be a bit ignorant of when a dragonet wasn't in the mood to talk to her, she still meant well. Every day when Queen Crest entered was immediately a good day for some dragons.

Fun fact: Acacia actually went to Jade Mountain Academy around the same time as Queen Crest, though they weren't particularly close or anything. Mostly since Acacia spent most of her time REALLY focusing on her astrology work.

Unfortunately after a few years, Queen Crest reluctantly agreed to stop attending because of the Sand-Ice drama, which was bordering on a war which might bring in other tribes and put her at risk.

It has been a long time since that cleared up though, and Queen Crest has began to occasionally visit sometimes when she has the time. It's especially fascinating to meet the hybrids they might have there for Queen Crest.

Anyway, Queen Crest is well-known for her philosophy of never using her powers unless she has to. She often argues how "a real pearl that is made within an oyster's mantle and found by a diligent hunter has oceans more value than any perfect pearl I could summon."
It tends to make many dragons annoyed at her not using her powers when they could easily solve something, though many other dragons respect her for it (and may still argue the old "animus powers make dragons crazy when they use it" idea, which Queen Crest doesn't feel is really true based on her understandings of philosophy)

Queen Crest has yet to take a mate or even have any dragonet yet. She mostly says, she's waiting for the right time and the right dragon. She won't rush it.

She's made sure her whole life to never swallow big whale bones.
Just something her mother taught her.
