Description "Non-Conformism is not a real word."

I drew this last night, it had been rattling around my brain for a while but I couldn't decide how to draw the characters. In the end Gothgirl took the most work because I got lazy and just made Bookworm a caricature of me.

So, enjoy; the first (publicly displayed) original comic by me! "The Adventures of Bookworm and Gothgirl".

Pencil sketch inked with a mapping pen and calligraphy ink on a Traidcraft recycled writing pad. Text added in Corel Photo-Paint.

*giggles* yes tis true... took a lot of will not to fall into that trap of I'm doing it because it's non-conformist but if everyone else is doing it then I'm conforming which I don't want to do...

In the end it was just easier to do what I actually wanted to do

Heh, I've never had the problem myself, I just know a lot about words and the suffix -ism is turning it into something that one conforms to. Then again, what Bookworm wears isn't exactly conformist and if you imagine her in the same clothes only black, that's basically me.

I'm happy you find it funny, especially since you've been in the situation yourself, and thanks for the fave!

welcome ^_^

well I was never ever liked not even in elementary school so for a good number of years I was trying vainly to fit in anywhere at all..

I suppose I was quite lucky that way; I didn't have any real friends in primary school, but in secondary school I met a few people who thought my weirdness was cool so I was fine there.

Oh yeah, and here in merry old England we wear school uniforms so fitting in isn't really an issue as far as clothes are concerned.

uniforms.. if only.... my local school system implemented uniforms the year after I graduated high school.. so completely missed that band wagon.

I've had American friends tell me that they thought uniforms were really dull and they stifled individuality, but I like them because they're equalisers. It's hard to make fun of someone else's jumper when one is wearing the exact same thing.

Without uniforms people just end up in a self-imposed uniform anyway. It's too bad about your school, I'm told American high school is terribly clique-y.

insanely clique-y yes...

I rather like uniforms or more I'm apathetic to uniforms or lack of them. I tend to think that no matter which way the school goes, kids will still find something to tease you about if they want to.

True, but it's much harder to divide into tight-knit groups so completely when everyone is dressed the same. I think that's why we don't really have cliques in English schools.

AHHHH!!!! its so great!!! I reminds me of.... well... me!!!! yay! ignorance is bliss! XD great work on the art...... most publishers these days tend to go for refined work...... in all ways.... so its always better to do your own lettering... even if it takes shit loads of time.... check out the page 6 of the JP series.....on mine.... the lettering is like all thats good in the entire series... i just wanted to rush throught it so i could say that i had an issue of something.... but thats all taht i see wrong.... and thats just personal opinion.... so keep the good work up...

Thankyou so much! I did the lettering on the original, but because I did it with the same pen-and-ink and I am left-handed, it smudged!! And it was only afterwards that I thought of using gothic script for Gothgirl's speech...

I shall go and see your work now!
