A lot of the formulas are actually much more simple than you would think.
Some of them can get very complicated. A fairly decent understanding of algebra is all that is required in many instances.

I asked because I'm not very good with complicated mathematical formulas.

No problem.
Most of the fractal programs these days don't require you to actually do the math. Sometimes a knowledge helps but you can often create great pieces without having to know it.
