More of a sketch than tight pencils but I wanted to share this from my sketchblog ZOMBIES LOVE COMICS which I'm trying to be active on again.Riddle as the Rocketeer. Two things killing me here, how bad I am at likenesses especially since she has such a unique look to her. Aw well, we'll just call it my version of her in cosplay. Also, the gun getting cut off especially since it fit in the rough sketch stage and I hate having to rely on digital trickery to fix things like that. If I do decide to finish this off myself I'll make sure to get that gun in the shot completely.
EDIT:-This is based on an actual cosplay done by Riddle. I found one image of it here on DA and I'm sure if you Google search you can see many more:
For anyone that would like, click the Download button for a larger version to work with should you feel so inclined. As always all I ask is that if you put it up anywhere online I'd love to see it and a credit to myself and the cosplayer be included somewhere. The above image is only for personal use of course, please do not make me stop sharing work with everyone because you want to make prints or such off of something done for fun and the love of the medium. Looks gorgeous. I like her pose and expression. Yeah, the gun is an attention grabber, but Photoshop is a tool just like any other and if that's what it takes to perfect an image, no big deal.

Thanks, man. Yeah, I agree about PS or any digital deal being a tool like a pencil or a brush but it's a personal preference thing where I like the original work to be the sum whole of it, is all.

Yeah, I know the feeling. Been feeling a little pencil-negligent myself lately, and the 'just another tool' thing is what I keep telling myself to stop dwelling on it.
Doesn't last long though.

I think it's just a modern mentality where everyone wants to rush to the finished product. I'm guilty of that myself and I don't use digital tools anywhere near as much as most. It's actually a very small number of artists that can just sketch something out really quick, ink it, and color it and have it look awesome and I'm not talking subjective taste here I'm talking publishing, commercial art, design, concept, all that stuff that puts dollars in bank accounts.
The "Jack of all Trades" ideal is really prevelant in modern creative fields which yields more product but less quality overall. Gone are the days when someone would specialize in one thing and collaborate with other specialists to create an even greater end result. Much of this can be traced to higher rates being charged by the more talented folks, less money in the budget for the artistic parts of the creative process, time constraints on projects themselves, and tools like digital mediums making it easier for artists to fake it 'til they make it, as I've heard bandied about. The fact that the mainstream audiences seem to have a less discerning and critical eye and see all this that someone like you or I may take as passionate creation as just another piece of disposable entertainment could also contribute to the current state of things.
Again, it's all relative because someone collecting paychecks from a publisher or company for taking a photo and tinting it blue with a filter is gonna claim I'm full of it and that's fine as long as this person then doesn't turn around and claim that that work is some kind of high art.
Of course art being what it is...

Yeah, I'm guilty too. Not of the whole "filter = instant art" thing (and I'm not about to argue what is and isn't fine art) but of going for less quality in favor of fast production. Most of the commissions I've been producing lately have been really quickly produced just so I can get past them even though I could try hard, add more shading and hatching and the like. Client's satisfied, so I'm satisfied.
I keep trying to tell myself to "master one medium and become world class at it", but that's no fun and it's unfeasible. I love to draw, ink, color, write, and plenty of artists can produce great work doing all the chores (or all the necessary ones anyway) by themselves without having to deal with all the headaches that come with struggling to find the perfect collaborator(s), so I'd rather just fly solo. It was actually suggested to me just yesterday that I get someone to draw a comic based on a story of mine because it's believed my writing is stronger than my art (and it may very well be true) but I just can't bear the thought of it.
Though I don't have a problem doing the occasional inks and/or colors over someone else's art, I just have too big of an ego when it comes to my own characters to trust someone else to treat them with the same care I do.
