I gave a shot at coloring this lineart. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did coloring it.

Thank you.

I was just going to do the character, but then I got the idea of making a huge polaroid behind her and it took off from there.

Overall... I like the inking. I tend to have the same problem with facial lines. I try to do them carefully and then they tend to be thinner lines then the rest of the body or hair. Nice to know I'm not alone When I use Microns, I use the .005 and .01 microns almost exclusively and just push on them to get thicker lines and line irregularity. They tend to split and then act as a pen/brush

Well Micron makes a Brush version to their pens...it's not the best in the world but I usually use it to knock out the big black areas.

I used to ink with nibs and brush exclusively but as I've moved more into just pencilling I've kinda let the old ways go and cheat alot with markers. Plus I've always admired what I call "clean line" inkers like Brian Bolland's stuff and I've always got that "gotta make it look clean" mentality and it usually keeps me from having a looser line.

Oh well, there will always be a "next piece."

Yep. I too prefer the clean line. I have one of the Micron brushes and have used it some, but yeah, not one of my favorite tools. I still mainly use the 005 and 01 pens and sort of crack the tip to give it more flexibility.

What a great pic! Very well done. Lines are nice and thick and clean. Very nice work! The subject matter isn't that bad either.

Thanks.

The inking is great, aside from the hair (which really isn't that bad anyway) the line weights are really good. I'd offer to color it myself if I hadn't abandoned CG'ing, because it looks like it would be a really fun piece to render.

Awww, now what in the bloody blue blazes could've possibly caused you to abandon CGing?

Well, how about giving it another go and slapping some color on this bad boy, er girl?

Dualmask In reply to stalk [2004-09-16 11:28:52 +0000 UTC]

Well, lately I haven't been enjoying it, but maybe it's because I've only been coloring my own line art.

Since it is a great drawing, I might just give it a go...in fact, I will. Don't tell anyone!

looks good, only one crit ...the lines on her hair are to thick for the rest - IMO.

Sorry, that i am so slow for your great pencils . see ya

stalk In reply to Thorcus [2004-09-15 10:14:56 +0000 UTC]

Hey no problem.

I guess I just get my hands on that thick 08 Micron and WATCH OUT!

heh

Next time I'll try to curb my need to throw thick lines everywhere...I hope. Aw, who am I kidding, I'll probably f**k up the next piece too. I should leave the inking to the pros.

ha ha no man, do more ink, i think it gives a special feeling to ink his own work - IMO

'saves, prepares to CG'

ahem, that out of the way i'd like to offer a small crit.

you are DAMN good at lineart/inking theory, i can't tell if this is digital inking or traditonal, but that doesn't matter: i will suggest something: next time you do hair, in this case her bangs, maybe a tapered line would look better, or just a lighter line in general, the current lines are too thick in comparision with the facial lines. however, it's fine as it is.

PEACE

i tapered line *could* be better; however, if the chick just has really think hair, that's how it is. i have to agree that the line for the hair is a bit think in comparison, but in no way does it detract from the picture. overall, i think this is a very cool drawing.

If you do CG it, I get first dibs on seeing it, right?

That aside, it's all hand inked because it's a miracle I can even work this modern miracle of technology let alone ink or color on it. As for how crappy of an inker I am, believe me; I know. I'm trying my best to pick up all these cool little tid-bits of advice from everyone, but truth be told I'm just not very good with ink. Oh well...I'll try to do better on the next one.

maybe

'blinks'

ooook. you're better in skill at inking, but im probably more learned on the theory behind it. it's not an issue of you being a bad inker, just what i suggested is a more attractive/pleasing technique than what you have.

you can see the CG when i get it done, with your permission i'll just post it on DA and note you, unless you want me to email it. may i have full freedom with colorscheme? or would a particular schema be better suited?

PEACE.
