I had the honour to write an article for Project Educate 's Artisan Craft Week. And what is it I like most? It's cake. So, obviously it had to be cake related. It shouldn't be too difficult, so I thought an introduction to making a buttercream cake would be alright. As I didn't want the article to be too theoretical, I made a cake according to the instructions mentioned in the text. And this is how the cake turned out. It's a six layer vanilla buttermilk cake filled with italian meringue buttercream and fresh strawberries, topped with more buttercream, strawberry macarons, a partial white chocolate drip and white baiser tuffs.

When Mrs-Durden asked me to contribute an article for this week's Project Educate I was flattered - and hesitant. At first I was unsure if I could provide anything that might be of interest or useful but she helped me channelling my passion for baking. So, thanks to her this is my very first article about novelty cakes! Novelty cakes are not your usual everyday type kind of cakes but excel in looks and taste, are often very individual and set trends.
In this guide I will show you the process of making a novelty cake. Like in every crafting hobby this process is very personal and different for each person, but it might still give you an impression of how to answer the question: What kind of cake do I want to make?
