INTRODUCING THE EQUESTRIA GEMS! The Mane 6 as Crystal Gems! Self explanatory, really. All of them are Crystal Gems, as such, all have the star insignia somewhere on them instead of something else. An interesting design choice I decided would be that, similar to how all of the Mane 6 are (or were, not counting Alicorn Twilight) two of each, three of the Equestria Gems have defined lips like Garnet and Amethyst, three don't. Three have eyes like Sapphire and three don't. I have a mythology set up for them already, which comes together with all of them, but I have yet to define their homeworld as Earth, considering the backstory is slightly different and clashing slightly with Steven Universe's events, and as such, may not take place on the same world as Steven's, at least, not without significant alterations to the Equestria Gems canon. Despite this, I don't want to specify it as not Earth, as it could still be Earth, and I don't want to ruin the idea of crossovers. And I would love to see people use the Equestria Gems canon if they so desire, seriously! All I ask is that you try to stay with the ideas I've lined out, and feel free to ask questions about everything! You can absolutely use these designs, IF YOU CREDIT ME AND RESPECT MY WISHES! Since this is kind of my idea and design (this specific canon, I do not own the idea of the Mane 6 as Gems, obviously) I would like if you asked questions about this! In short:
Princess Celestia=Rainbow Lattice Sunstone
Rainbow Lattice Sunstone, and her sister, Sri Lanka Moonstone, mark the main and biggest diversion from SU canon in Equestria Gems, being a major game changer, well, for some things.
They come from a time far before any other Gems, and are among the very first Gems, and definitely the only living ones left. The others are long shattered, and in the days that Sunstone and Moonstone walked among the populace of Gems, before the Diamond Authority, there were legends that Gemkind were made from the shards of the sisters' god-Gem contemporaries. The veracity of such legends are uncertain.
Of the Gems below Sunstone and Moonstone, the Diamonds were always the greatest and hardest to crack. Due to Sunstone and Moonstone's reluctance to rule, given how others treated them as so godlike, the Diamonds became the ruling authority, but they found themselves not properly respected. Well, in their idea of "properly respected", which was probably that the buck didn't stop with them on EVERYTHING. They weren't the absolute authority, essentially. And as time passed, the four Diamonds envied the position the two godly sisters held, and sought to raise a coup. They knew they couldn't survive a direct confrontation. The four Diamonds hatched a plot to kill two planets with one comet, as research displayed that one could corrupt another Gem by cracking their gemstone in a certain way. They targeted the younger and smaller of the two while she was alone and distracted. They sent an assassin. One who was small enough not to be noticed by her while she was reading the Gem charts. It was an Ammolite type gem who did it, flying up and instructed to crack Sri Lanka's Gem. She was killed, but it was too late. Nobody notices a fly while engrossed in work.... until it's stabbed a pike through your Gemstone.
And the next thing anyone knew, Sri Lanka Moonstone was moving to blot out all the stars in the sky, and Rainbow Lattice Sunstone had to make the difficult choice of protecting all other life in the galaxy at the expense of her sister... Sunstone was concerned about what befell her sister that could have possibly turned her to darkness like that. Was it something she did? Was she an inattentive and unworthy sister...? As she had not known or seen the assassination, she was left with no information but to worry. It was always on her mind during the fight, trying to apologize did nothing. They fought for so long, even by Gem standards. The war waged between the two godly Gems raged across the galaxy, and eventually came to an end over a pale blue dot, the pair of them becoming poofed and descending to the planet as gemstone meteors. When they crashed, they buried themselves deep in the earth, both of them had dealt the final blow to one another, almost as if they were destined to fall as one.
After that, the Diamond Authority essentially scrubbed their existence from history, and set up the idea that the Diamonds were the only authority, the only one that mattered, the only one that ever existed. As hard as the Diamonds tried to erase Sunstone and Moonstone from history, some Gems still remember, but even fewer still worship them, especially now that they aren't around to tell others that they are not to be worshiped, an order that was never obeyed when they were alive. They were simply too godlike for others to accept as simple Gems, even if they admitted they were more than simple Gems, they weren't goddesses. Now that they are gone, those who worship the two have grown more... marginalized, and more extreme. With Moonstone's corruption, Sunstone's worshipers are more common, though none are open about it. There's an even smaller group of them who would like to ressurect her, but they've had no luck, and only a few even wish to... And only one continues to search....
Physically, because they are so ancient, they have very inhuman bodies, even by the standard Gems have. Sunstone and Moonstone both lack a nose, and the bottom of both of their dresses are geodes. And unlike Sapphire, there are no hidden legs behind them. They simply lack legs at all, their dresses are part of their body. Sunstone and Moonstone both have supernumerary limbs that aren't a manifestation of weapons, Sunstone having two pairs of wings, and Moonstone having a set of ethereal extra arms. They have abnormal eyes, Sunstone having lesser gems instead of eyes, and Moonstone having eyes like Lapis had while cracked naturally, hat reflect everything seen within them, as the Sun glows, the Moon reflects,
Design notes on Rainbow Lattice Sunstone herself: She has sunspots covering her body, like her sister, and of course, the extra wings. Her eyes are based off of G1 Twinkle Eyed Ponies, to accentuate her lack of normal Gem features. Her Geode under her dress is obviously lifted from the resource, but also matches the gem on Celestia's necklace and crown. Her dress is entirely lifted from her Gala Dress in 'Make New Friends, but Keep Discord. She is more soft and rounded than her sister, who is more angular.
