i think it's because of the porprotion and the way you shaded him is just like the adult link, make the shadows and the form more subtle on the small link will make him look more like children, less like a shrunk dwarf. XD

My trick is to... put a blindfold on, do the rough sketch, put your blindfold off and clean it from there while retaining some of the random lines ;D

It`s actually quite close to my process, actually. LOL A lot of my primary shapes and sketches are not calculated at all, I only apply the `clean` process after every basic line and colors are laid out. It`s hard to explain D: I guess it`s a subconscious thing
