This is Marella Élan, one of my characters from my novel The Mariner Sequence - Book 1: Ravens and Roses. She is the little sister of Ryn Élan and is employed as a royal messenger. Like her sister, who she adores, Marella is a natural and her power is super speed, but she is insane. Marella loves birds, sparkly or shiny objects, and is very cheerful. Despite her insanity and random, wandering chatter, she does have occasional flashes of deep insight, often in the form of rhymes.

NOTE: A "natural" is a person who is born at the conjunction of one or more ley-lines. Such people are blessed with one magical talent, but are then born either physically crippled or mentally unstable. A few naturals are born of sound mind and body, but they usually deteriorate physically or mentally by the time they turn 30.

Behind Her Name:

Marella is one of the characters who popped out of a dream and said, "Hi! Here I am!" Her name, personality, and appearence have not changed since the dream that sparked The Mariner Sequence.

"Marella" - possible variation of the Hebrew "Mary" meaning "beloved" or "rebellious," or perhaps an alternate spelling of "Mireille" meaning "to admire."
"Élan" - a word meaning "spirit" or "fervor"
