Once Walter stops being scared of his own decay-based abilities, and starts experimenting with his powers, he discovers his control over decomposition also extends to control over the organisms responsible for decomposition. As a result, he discovers he can grow and shape constructs out of fungus.

Of course, being a giant nerd, he immediately uses his demonic powers to grow himself some fancy new clothes, and dress up like a fungus-encrusted 18th century dandy.
