Description The geological beginning of Grand Canyon!
Mile 0 on the Colorado River as it flows through the canyon.
Lees Ferry is named for John Doyle Lee (1812-1877) who established a ferry across the river in the early 1870s as it was the only accessible crossing place for hundreds of miles.
Lee was the sole person held responsible for the infamous Mountain Meadows Massacre

A vehicle crossing of the river - Navaho Bridge - has been in place since 1929.
The cliffs seen in the background shrouded in clouds are NOT part of Grand Canyon.
They are the Vermillion Cliffs - a national monument - and stretch from Arizona back into Utah.
"The Wave", a well known site for hikers & photographers, is located within these massive cliffs - some towering 1500ft / 400m over the land.
The fascinating drive to Grand Canyon's North Rim, takes you along the base of these cliffs for nearly 40 mi / 64km
ALL river trips through the canyon launch from Lees Ferry.
Camera, etc.:  Linhof Technika 3 Field Camera w/210 Schneider APO Symmar lens on Fuji Velvia 4x5 sheet film.
