Honestly, it looks kinda futuristic (4 wheels that go side-to-side, uses 8 wheels and looks like a tank). But I suppose it as a old feel to it as I don't see cameras one can use to safely scan the battlefield or drive while under fire. plus the canopy armor looks kinda thin.

for field recon it uses remote controlled drones, rather than built in cameras. armor is truly as strong s one of a tnk, but this wehicle was never designed to be a front-line combatant.

I like it.

Have you ever seen the Mammoth MKII? It's a unit from the C&C series of games.

That AT-AT looking thing? ))

ZanyOnePip In reply to SteamTank [2016-02-28 17:37:00 +0000 UTC]

Yep. There is a C&C 3 Tiberium Wars mod called "Tiberium Essence" which introduces a updated version of the Mammoth MK2. I believe they're also working on adding the forgotten as a faction and may still have the Wolverine and Titan mechs (or updated versions) from the Tiberium Sun gam.

There is a (cancelled) Red Alert 3 mod project called Paradox but it's been cancelled due to difficulties working the engine the game is based off of. The mods website is even defunct. Even then what it has accomplished is MASSIVE.

there are tons of cancelled mods, that looked promising. Itt's a real shame. What i really wih to see is a remastered RedAlert, bade on, at lest, RA2 engine

Well, Perhaps I can help find you good mods to extend the life of your games (so far most of the mod reviews are of Civ V mods, but I plan on getting more games when I get a new Gaming Laptop Windows 10 PC). Civ V is quite moddable by the way.

I'm not a massive fan of Civ. games

no. But I do plan on doing reviews and let's plays of some C&C mods (someday, I already have a Rise of the Reds review up)

I love the 'old feel' of the thing. You know the enemy will under estimate the thing then gets his ass handed to him.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SteamTank In reply to Samskiesctt [2015-09-22 16:15:53 +0000 UTC]

underestimating it as lethal. Also the "old look" is nspired by german WW2 era vehicles "Puma" and "Kugelblitz"

tophoo [2015-01-06 16:48:20 +0000 UTC]

Very slick!
I just hope you have some sort of governance on the fire rate of the main weapon/s- 20mm ammo and all the related feed systems take up a TON of room and weight and rotary barrels fire fast. If you're looking for something that can fight an extended engagement bit a bit more flexibility, you might want to consider a robust co-ax weapon.
Love the Soviet vibe.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SteamTank In reply to tophoo [2015-01-07 18:38:36 +0000 UTC]

Rate of fire is variable. It operates on a high RoF level only for taking down fast flying aircrafts

Are those small tubes by the sides of the turret the AA missile pods?

If so they're rather small. Well suited for point defense, but innappropriate against anything with some range or speed behind them. I can see this being a bane to helicopters and VTOLs though.

And 180km/h? I'd like to see the engine behind this beast. You wouldn't want to have to change direction quickly in that thing

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SteamTank In reply to TheOnlyGaz [2014-11-28 19:28:22 +0000 UTC]

Yes, theere missile pods. Missiles themself are not specially AA, still can take down ground targets. As for AA afficiency, with used technology, their parameters are close to the ones installed on SA-19 Grison. Engine is a 850 H.P.  turbo diesel. Still, the said 180 km/h can be reached only on a good road.

i also use solidworks man! how did you get that type of render? did you use photoview? ah mine look so different. if i take a screen shot of the model theres too many lines etc. yours looks so clean.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SteamTank In reply to Quesocito [2014-09-19 11:48:45 +0000 UTC]

I used photoview to render this. Used custom textures with height maps and "Draw outlines" option in photoview

I was looking on how to purchase solidworks, and there is little information on pricing. Any advice?

How much time did it cost you to learn it? In what time frame were those vehicles made? Im interested in (perhaps) learning solidworks for game development/design.

Cheers!

SteamTank In reply to Funkdude [2014-07-22 16:11:32 +0000 UTC]

Cant help you on purchsing license, becuse i'm using a corporate license.
It cost me nothing to learn it - only time and a wish to learn. There re a lot of free tutoials on internet.
This particular vehicle was made in about 4 hours. Sometimes more, sometimes less , it depends on detail level.
For gmedev it is not a best choice, but for design it is great

Funkdude In reply to SteamTank [2014-07-23 09:57:33 +0000 UTC]

I see, thanks for taking the time to reply. I am using substace designer to texture models, and i cant help but thinking vehicles like yours would look amazing with substance designers options .

Perhaps i can try a trial for solidworks sometime next year when i have more time. When working with modular assets, i think solidworks could actually be a blessing .

Thanks!

Will-Erwin [2014-06-30 21:09:37 +0000 UTC]

Nice! My only suggestion would be to show its guns in an elevated position to better indicate its antiaircraft role. It looks like it's ready to mow down a zerg rush in this configuration, and there don't seem to be any mechanisms for extreme elevation.

SteamTank In reply to Will-Erwin [2014-07-01 04:16:29 +0000 UTC]

I'll make the render with elevated guns later.
